We shouldn't complain about the heat, given the alternative is rain, and I'm really not averse to blue skies and sunshine, just wish it wasn't quite so warm (30 degrees in my room most days, even with the window and fan on) because the heat doesn't seem to suit my health, so I have done very little this past week in favour of zoming out, napping or just avoiding the world outside until late afternoon when the sun disappears behind the tall trees in the back garden and I can sit out on the bench and enjoy the warmth and breezes and birdsong.
I've even been reading books - really proper printed paperback things by authors with original concepts as opposed to my usual Harry Potter fanfic habit online. Considering I would normal read nearing 200 books a year most years before I was in hospital last year this is quite a change, so it really felt good to get back into the swing of things, even if they were kids books and didn't last very long, Dragonskiin Slippers (a re-read) and the first sequel, highly recommended. I have more kids books lined up so hopefully that'll get me started again, and its very relaxing to sit in the garden with a book, and music playing on the nexus or phone, yay that amazon cloud again :)
I did go out last week - well, had to be out of the house for my own peace of mind as we were having a new boiler fitted as ours was on its last legs, made more sense to get it done in the summer rather than freeze in winter like our neighbours had to, at least ours lasted several years longer than theirs did! I was planning a really early start but luckily the engineers got delayed so I could rise at a more sensible time and head into town, to Mann Island, got myself settled into Starbucks with a cafe mocha and my Nexus on their free wifi and.. couldn't relax at all. Uncomfy seat, awful draft from the open door (was a cold day) and considering the place is usually empty later in the day, it got very noisy as the world and his wife decided it was *the* spot for lunch. Urgh.
Luckily my fave Brasco Lounge is just round the corner so I headed there sooner than planned, got a comfy sofa to sit on with the table at a great height for poking the Nexus, groovy music playing, free wifi (though it logged out every now and again, grr) and the best burgers in town, well, my current favourite until I check out a couple of other restaurant/cafés at least. Huge 8oz prime beef burger on ciabatta with salad and chips and onion rings and onion relish, oh and cheese and bacon on the burger, so tasty, though clearly my limit is 7oz on the burger thing as I couldn't finish it. Utterly delicious and a really relaxing place to be. I got restless at one point and headed out to check out the Museum of Liverpool gift shop across the way. It was raining, so I got all soggy, and gift shop was dire and makes me doubtful about the rest of the museum though dad and I are supposed to be going at some point..
I squelched my way back to Brasco to raised eyebrows from the girl behind the counter who was then only too happy to provide a nice pot of tea (assam, yay!) and a place of buttermilk pancakes with berries (burger had gone down and I wanted something warming, they were only so-so but the least sweet option they had). And then eventually the gas men had left so I wandered home, and didn't get woken *too* early next day by their return. Well, slept through the drilling and sawing but the hammering taking place directly below my head in bed was a little harder to doze to *giggle*
Today I've snapped more pics of my dolls to put another post up on my doll blog and add to my Flickr page, getting more hits there, couple of links back and mentions on other doll sites which is fun, nice to be a bit creative too!
