GOOD Aragorn/Legolas Fic
anonymous

Was re-reading some of my favourite Aralas fics from years ago and I was upset when I realised how badly written or boring most of them really were.
So please PLEASE give me (or rec me) a believable goodfic where Legolas isn't a super effeminate woobie, an Arwen substitute or gets impregnated by Aragorn. Would especially love to see a slow burn romance as in so so many fics of old they fell in love at first sight and were kissing after 2 sentences.

I hadn't read LOTR fic in a long time, since that is my opinion of much of it. But then I rewatched the trilogy recently, and really wanted to read Legolas/Aragorn... but yeah. There's not much good fic out there for this pairing.
Something where they're both actually in character (or at least, not effeminate) would be very nice.
I love you already for working on this! Take your time author anon, I've been sailing this ship for far too long already and I can wait a little longer, because I'm sure the results will be worth it!

This is my favourite so far: http://archiveofourown.org/works/632797?hide_banner=true&view_adult=true gosh my heart broke so hard I swear I haven't found some of pieces yet. There's a sequel fix where Legolas finds comfort in Eldarion, so you can ignore it if you can't bear the thought of Legolas with someone else other than Aragon. Also love "Benediction" by the same author.

Seeing The Hobbit has inspired me to re-read my favorite LOTR authors, too, and I thought I'd share a few with those who are still new to the fandom or simply unwilling to venture into the long dark of ff.net.
Probably the greatest statement in book canon of Legolas's love for Aragorn, however you choose to interpret it, is that he resisted the call of the Sea for over a century, sailing with Gimli only after King Elessar's death. There are several lovely melancholy stories about the last members of the Fellowship as Aragorn's time draws to a close, but the two that I can recall which present a slashy take are Until We Meet Again, by iiiionly (at AO3) and The Sun In His Hands, by JastaElf"Until We Meet Again" is one of the best and most original portrayals of Legolas's work in the reconstruction of Ithilien post-WOTR, IMHO. I really like the imagery of Middle-earth at the end of the Third Age and start of the Fourth as "a great garden," blooming with renewed life. Aragorn and Legolas's conversation is wrenching, and I appreciate that

Back to the slash recs, lol, Leaves of Gold, by Lady E(lina) is a longer piece that covers the War of the Ring. The prose and first person perspective lends a sort of dreaminess to the story, I feel, that lingers in the mind.
Love, War, by Mirrordance is another chaptered Aragorn/Legolas fic. Though set in the Fourth Age, with appropriate supporting characters such as Éomer and a large original cast of Easterlings, there are a number of flashbacks to the Ring War. Both Thranduil and Gimli play key roles, and while I'm not sure I accept the author's explanation of Legolas's motivations at the end, I still find "Love, War" a most enjoyable tale of not only romance but ensemble action and drama. That said, my favorite of Mirrordance's fics is probably the more whimsical Escape. For Every Evil and its twosequels are highly regarded, too, in the popular subgenre of reincarnating the mortals of LOTR to join Legolas and the other Elves for adventures in the modern world.
