For years Bofur has admired Fili and Kili from afar never acting on his feelings towards the pair. He knows they are together and doesn't want to upset their established relationship with the trivial feelings of an old dwarf. Maybe he finally finds the courage to admit his desires and they graciously accept him into their hearts/bed.

The Battle of Five Armies leaves Bofur dazed by the loss of the two he had previously worried he would be leaving behind. Bofur doesn't feel at home in Erebor anymore and cannot deal with the grief of his loss. Que a trip to the Shire where he seeks Bilbo's good company. Eventually he builds a new life with Bilbo. Can be just friendship or more between them.
