Yesterday I went to see Patty from down the street and woofed to her owner. She's a Chow, and they had shaved her for the warm weather, so she had all light color fur on her body, that's her undercoat ( Read more... )

Hi Sheepy at Journal!

I just figured that the electric bill might be lower, I leave the monitor on a lot more than I should so that it's ready when I want to check mail or look something up. I guess other things in a house take a lot more 'juice' so it's not that much difference. I notice that the heat output is less than a CRT.

I have to get used to it on my main system that I use most of the time, reading a big block of text across a wide screen like this is harder. There's a reason why newspaper articles have narrow columns, because your eye ball can switch from line to line faster, and reading is easier. The screen itself is easier on my eyes, there's just no flicker at all.

I have an okay video card in this one, this is the $300 Compaq from the box you saw in my room, and I've upgraded it a lot. The video card has 256 megs of memory so it drives the monitor fine. I took the base computer and over time I've upgraded the memory from 512 to 1.5 gigs, 80 to 200 hard drive, processor from Celeron to P4, separate video card, DVD writer, and front panel usb jacks and card reader slots from a junked computer that was like it. That helped it to stay current over the about 3 years that I've had it. When I got the Compaq, it was a big improvement over the P3-800 HP I had before, and the first computer I ever bought from a store!
