Is this possible?

I just replaced my crappy old speaker cables (roughly 40 years old, very thin insulation, and the cables themselves are thin also, and their ends have long since corroded) with pro-level speaker cables - the kind that are used on stage, i.e. thick, with thick insulation, and of course they're not corroded either, as they're new. (Why do I have these high-end cables? I accidentally ordered them; meant to order something rather simpler.)

So, my question: is it possible that I, a non-audiophile, could actually hear the difference? Because I feel as if I can - but that may very well be a kind of audio placebo effect.
