so my class is in pasadena/deer park/la porte/whatever, and it's not too far from the
san jacinto monument, which commemorates the last battle that led to texas independence from mexico. andrea and i decided to go on thursday for nostalgic purposes as it was a common field trip back in elementary/middle schools. the last time i went was in 7th grade. it is the tallest columnar monument. apparently, there shouldn't be any monument taller than the washinton monument, and the san jacinto one is taller only because of the ginormous star that sits on top. the reflecting pool looks incredibly nasty like galveston water. oh how everything has to be "bigger in texas". there's also this thing called the battleship texas that is in the state park grounds. i find it funny that now surrounding this historic site is a million and one refineries. i never had a need to drive out to the east side. this week i have noticed that if you drive east on 610, once you cross I-45, you will see petrochemical refineries all along the horizon for as far as you can see. when you're coming west on 225/610, you catch downtown when you pass over I-45 and crossing over 288 brings relient stadium into view.
some people from taiwan are staying with us until tomorrow morning. we went to eat some yummy texas barbecue at goode's barbecue. here is a giant silver armadillo that is on kirby, which i've always wanted to take a picture of.
