Thursday we had a severe late-summer storm--straight-line winds 75+ mph, golf-ball size hail for about 15 minutes, heavy rain. Pretty amazing display of Nature's power! Our two cars were sitting out, and though the bodies were dimpled a bit, no windshields / windows broken--unlike most of the people in my neighborhood. But I had two windows on north side of house shattered and lots of limbs, branches, down from old trees in yard, plus a three-inch carpet of green leaves everywhere on my 1.6 acres of county-pioneer farmstead. I have been trying to rake up as much of the trash as I can, but it's a slow process. Worked about 6 hours yesterday and even more today and have only about half of the place cleaned up. Wouldn't care too much but school starts Wednesday, and I still need to finalize my Modern European Novel syllabus--which is giving me trouble. I have 32 people signed up (a relatively HUGE class as far as the English department at my MPU is concerned). And I need to figure out what kind of requirements I should demand--more people means lots more work for me and I already have 2 overloaded World Lit classes. Tis a puzzlement that I hope I'll decipher.
I've been drinking Freixenet since I came in from the sweat-work in the yard--sort of a "drowning my sorrows" thing (cause will remain nameless) and a way to really chill for the evening. I sign off now.
