Yesterday, when I got home from class, I went to wake up my laptop to do some work, and it didn't turn on. I restart it. It doesn't turn on. It started to, but the only thing that happened was that the light by the power button turned on and the cd rom made its usual start up noise. Then nothing but a simple blue powerlight being on and an absolutely black, dead, silent screen.
Two consultations with computer-savvy friends later, I ended up calling HP Technical Support on the suspicion that the hard drive or the motherboard was down. HP technical support thinks my motherboard is down. Which, considering the alternative, I'm glad about because I don't want to have to replace all of my music collection for the second time in five months. I had just gotten it brought back up to semi-decent status. If I lose it all again, I think I might cry. I was seriously going to back up all my music that night too.
Then today, we were told in our neuroscience lecture that we were to have a quiz tomorrow. Now, last week when the course started, this same lecturer made a big deal about how we should come to class regularly. Well, a couple of my friends did miss that class, so as they were walking down the hall, I practically yell to them that there's a neuroscience quiz, blah blah blah, with all the details. Right as I do that, said professor walks right past me in the hall. I = Genius.
Also, in our school, there's a chapter of the group Physicians for Human Rights. (See website www.physiciansforhumanrights.org) This organization stands for all the principles that made me want to go into medicine. However, the UAMS chapter hasn't been too active lately. A group of us M1s would like to resurrect the club and all, but it's been really hard to get the M4s who were around when the club was active to help us get started. I really wish that they'd help us out, or at least just give us one afternoon where we're given all the info necessary, and then we M1s can start planning activities.
