I haven't been on DoN for years and don't really care about the place. But I was thinking about the recent DoN rant by
Raivyn and it made me realize what I would be somewhat sad about should DoN cease to exist. It will be a bit depressing if all the various zones I created should vanish into nothingness. No more people running through them and having fun. It's kind of like writing a story, having it published, and realizing that once it is out of print it will never be in print again.
And so a list of those zones.
The Asylum. (Not too special. Just another noob zone for Pangaea. (notable for the fact that it has elevators in it that take you to the different floors)
Caverns of Doom. This became a popular high level warrior hunting zone. I made it specifically because there were no high level hunting zones that weren't dominated by Rangers. It was the caverns filled with giant statue people who were immune to stun. There was also a store where you could buy Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes as pets.
Evil Realm and Estrans Realm. Buried deep beneath the graveyard it had a couple different goodies. The spirit blades and Lion helm. Two of perhaps 5 items in the entire game created specifically for Paladins. And the Spirit Blades were the only item in the entire game that used the double damage vs alignment code. I worked out how to do that in order to make a weapon that was double damage vs evil. Oh, and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and Spiderman were two of the monsters.
Ezra Clan hall. Nothing really exceptional about this place except I placed a dog named Prince in as the clan's mascot. If you actually paid attention to the description of the room he was in the rain that was falling was purple. Prince/Purple rain
Gener. This is a really really really bland zone. Everything is plain white. The name of the city (posted on a sign) is Gener. This makes the citizens Generish? (no that's not it) Generian? (not quite) Generic. (yeah, that's the one). I actually made this one in a fit of annoyance at Alicia and didn't actually expect it to be used. It was when she was in charge of zones. I had submitted several with tricky items, paths, processes. Every one was rejected. Meanwhile she was putting in plain ordinary 20x20 grid hunting zones left and right. So I made a generic open grid hunting zone and even emphasized that it was generic and bland. I'm so glad Karen took over or my creative stuff would never have been seen.
Meregaea. The underwater version of Pangaea created because there were no good underwater zones for the low level merfolk. Meregaea also included the huge hunting area full of fish. Plus the undertow that yanked you downward and flung you back out high over Pangaea. In those tunnels you could also run into the only game example of the password process. If you paid attention to the description of one room you could swim into you would see that there was a ring embedded in the wall. If you grabbed the ring then the undertow wouldn't pull you out. The ring would instead shift something that temporarily shut off the flow of water. Then you could make your way to a hidden room that had treasure and a merfolk trident weapon.
New Orc City. Nothing exceptional here except for a church that wasn't blessed. Vamps could rest here and get the extra healing without worrying about exploding into flame. Nobody frequented it though because it was so far off the beaten track. The area also contained the Statue of Liver Tea. It also had some gates described leading off to an amusement park. That was going to be Cone (so named because it was shaped like a cone) Island where there would have been amusement park rides which would have made extensive use of the password process. Players would have been able to do things like grab the golden ring on the merry go round and could have played the midway games. There was also going to be a subway which would act as a transport hub to far away zones. Oh, and there was the bridge that was named after the architects who designed it. Brook and Lynn.
Python dungeon extension. This included a vault full of treasure that nobody could get into. A golf course. A candy store where could could buy crunchy frog and spring surprise candies. There were numerous Monty Python references. Where else in all the lands could you get yourself a shrubbery? And another one of a kind process. A teleportation room that would send you down 3 possible random paths.
Tower. I can't even remember what this place was close to any more. I just know that there was a path somewhere that described a tower being visible through the trees. I got tired of there not actually being a tower there so I made one. The unique part of this area is it is the only multi story structure in the game where you can actually get to the top of it from both the inside and outside. If you have flight you can fly around outside the tower. The various outer rooms of the tower also have arrow slits. You can fire missile weapons and spells from inside the tower and hit people outside without them being able to see you or retaliate. The arrow slits are also made too narrow for anybody to pass through.
Wolfclan Hall. I didn't actually make this zone, I just remade it. It was the original Rebels clanhall. I put in the new mobs, updated the descriptions, and added a couple new areas tagged onto it. And this area also contained the pillows which could be wielded as weapons that did 1 point of damage allowing people to have pillow fights.
There were a few others that never made it into the game including the North Pole and a Haunted house which made liberal use of the password process.
