*sings* Lord, I can't wait to see their faces when I get the nerve to say:

"Take this job and shove it. I ain't workin' here no more!"

Dear LJ:

I quit my job today. It was pretty awesome. Here are some fun highlights:

* When I told my boss, Dick, and he put his head in his hands and said, "I am so fucked. Good for you!" and then was really nice about everything and sent me a very sweet reply to my "in writing" resignation email that listed out three things he wished from the seven years we've worked together (that we'd worked on more projects together, that we as a group had taken more time to have fun together, and that this recent shake-up hadn't happened) and wishing me well.

* Dick's grin when he said I should send him an email and copy Stewart (boss boss, asshat), and I said, "Please, please, please may I tell Stewart in person? I promise to be good. Please?"

* The two seconds of fish-face from Stewart when I said I'd been offered a position outside of EvilCorps, had accepted it, and had just given Dick my two weeks' notice.

* Managing to be completely professional when tendering my resignation to Stewart the Asshat: When he asked why I was going, I told him (truthfully) that the new job offered me acquisitions responsibility, which I was never going to get at EvilCorps unless I spent two or three years as a sales rep, and that between that and the ginormous salary increase, it was too good a career opportunity to pass up.

* The mass of hugs and expressions of envy I got from my coworkers (cube-dwelling troglodytes, that is--the office-dwellers mostly just smiled tightly and offered general good wishes and the occasional manly handshake).

* Being at the center of the building's rumor mill, and not in that "Ooh, guess who had sex with whom at the sales meeting" kind of way. For the record, I've never had sex with anyone at the sales meeting. There was kissing one time, but we were discreet.

* Having our assistant, Nancy, look up my new job's website and continually gasp and exclaim over all the cool benefits the place offers.

Yeah. That was a pretty good day.

Dick agrees that my last day should be Friday, 2/29. Stewart (asshat) is being a stickler for details and pushing for Monday, 3/3, since that's technically two weeks--silly President's Day. In my email, I said that if they felt that my spending that one last day in the office was crucial, I would do it, but that I'd be very grateful if they'd just let me go on the 29th. I also pointed out that it's tidier my way, since it's the end of a pay period. We'll see how that shakes out. I've told New Job I'll start on Tuesday, 3/4. Worst case, I get no time off between the two jobs. Second worst case, I get a three-day weekend.

Okay. Man, I am wiped out. Thank you all so much for all your good wishes and congratulations. I'm feeling seriously lucky to have such great friends. Now, if we could all gather our job karma and aim it in the direction of Wales and New York, that'd be great. There are fangirls in need :-)
