It's a tradition where I'm from. Your first dream of the new year is lucky if there's either eggplant, a hawk, or Mount Fuji in it.

An eggplant is a kind of vegetable. It's good to eat, especially grilled or in a tempura batter. Mount Fuji is a very special landmark--a tall mountain. And yes, hawks are birds; they're big, with sharp beaks, and look very noble.

They don't have eggplants and hawks where you're from?

[He's a bit consternated. Never heard of eggplant, really? He will have to remedy to this, post-haste!]

I don't think so. I've lived a very sheltered life though so it's possible that we did have them and I just didn't know.

[it's charity; some people take care of the elderly; he feeds little girls who have no one to cook for them . besides Riku who totally doesn't count ]

Um....well putting aside the fact that there are probably more foods that I don't know about than that I do and haven't eaten....There's really only one. Sea-Salt ice cream. [what a sweet young man! offering to cook for her like that. she's flattered Watanuki. she's even blushing a little]
