Summary: Kira saw something that triggered a bad memory of his past

It was eleven o’clock in the night and Kira had just finished work. He was a little unsatisfied because he had yet to complete a proposal for a meeting when he was chased out by the security guard, whom by higher orders, was asked to escort Kira Izuru out of the office buildings and on his way home by eleven at night.

Kira had protested but obliged when he heard it was an order that he leave the office buildings to get some rest, because the proposal was important and he needed a fresh mind so that he could complete it more properly.

He boarded the bus heading in the direction of his home. There were many empty seats, considering how late it was. Kira decided to sit right at the back. As he walked along the isle to his desired seat, he noticed a teenage girl sitting in the middle of the rows of seats on the bus, huddled up in one corner, head bent low, obviously engrossed in whatever she was doing.

Kira decided she had to be either sleeping or reading or texting her friends on her mobile phone. He ruled out reading as anyone bent over so low could not possibly read anything. Somehow, he sensed something wrong with her and contemplated walking over to see if she needed help.

But before he could do so, he noticed her jerk up a little and a tiny shrill escaped from her lips. She must have noticed he had heard her as she quickly stopped and bent even lower, desperately trying to cover up whatever she was doing.

Kira was a little confused. But then a thought hit him. The young girl was hurting herself.

Flashbacks of his past flooded back into his mind as Kira recalled a period of his life when he was seriously losing his mind and had wanted to end all his pain and suffering with the infamous razor.

As luck would have it, he survived, and that had made him even more depressed. Blaming himself for not even being able to do things like this right. At that time, there were no tall buildings, or he would have performed the act of superman and dived down the multiple stories from high above.

The girl shuffled deeper into the corner of the seat, sensing that Kira was still standing nearby.

Kira was struggling to push out the troubling recollections that reappeared again, triggered by the young girl’s actions. He sat down on the nearby seat and tried to focus his concentration on something else entirely. He looked around, desperately finding something to think about.

But it was no use and one particular night of his teens remained etched in his head.

Moonlight shined through his bedroom window. It caused the dark red lines and splotches on his arm to glint in the night. The image was a masterpiece. Something so amazing, so interesting to stare at.

Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip.

The sticky red liquid leaked from the fresh wounds on his arms like water from a loose tap. A small puddle grew on the floor, as Kira stared, mesmerized.

Raising his other hand, he gripped the blade tightly. The first cuts were terrifying. But he got used to it. The pain was nothing unbearable. It was a small tinge compared to the pain in his heart that lived with him for so long.

In his rage, the subsequent strikes were random and all over the place. A new slash crossing over the not yet healed ones, causing a gush of blood to flow out.

He had started with the determination to end things. But it turned out he had found a new hobby. It was going to be his secret. It was going to make him unique.

Back in reality, Kira was calm once again. The visualizations clear as if they were happening at the moment. He was spacing out, feeling the satisfaction as his blood spewed out once again, feeling pure, feeling the guilt pour out with his blood.

The bus jerked to a stop suddenly, b ringing him out of his mental visions.

The girl had left, much to his surprise. He had been so caught up in his thoughts he had not noticed her leave. Glancing out the window, he noticed the bus was nearing his stop.

He felt a sense of relief and pride. He had successfully tackled the triggers of his past and still remained calm.

He felt that maybe things were going to work out after all, seeing as luck was on his side, even waking him from his visions before he missed his stop.

Kira alighted and walked the short distance to his apartment, feeling grateful that maybe tonight he was going to sleep peacefully after all.
