Was so tempted to buy an iPod yesterday. Thankfully the common sense picked up just in time. Nah, the new iPod will be coming with the arrival of my tax refund. Why, you ask? My poor iPod is at the last legs of life. The headphone connection port is messing up, and will only allow the headphones to play out of one ear. Ah well, you did me proud, my poor iPod. You lasted as long as you did, and I love you for that.
Anyways, onto what I really was coming here to post about. I have this worker who does not know who Alton John or Princess Diana are. It came up when I was listening to "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" by Alton John at work. The girl looked at me and asked me about the song, since she didn't recognize it as a traditional Lion King song. I responded by saying it was Alton John's version, and she asked the Earth shattering question.
"Who's Alton John?"
Everything just screeched to a halt right there. Everyone (thankfully it was slow that night) stopped and stared at her with our mouths on the floor. Who's Elton John? Who?!?! We all became speechless and she was like "You're still not telling me who this Alton John is!"
So, trying to jog her memory, I asked her if she knew the song "Candle in the Wind", the song that Alton John dedicated to Princess Diana. Now I know this girl is younger than I am, however she is not that young for her to say what she said next.
"Who's Princess Diana?"
She was being completely serious! I have never....ever met anyone who did not know who Princess Diana was! And she was even around when the whole catastrophe happened. It's not like it happened when she was born. Sure she was probably around 5 or 7 years old; however we grew up with it! Every so often it comes up in the news going "New theory as to what happened!"
And the whole Alton John thing? Hello newstands, you can take down those "controversial" magazines that show Alton John, his lover, and their wonderful baby together! Well okay, not really take them down. Quite the opposite. Please keep displaying them! There is no reason to cover up the images and sensor them!
Anyways, I'm rambling now. I am just floored at the fact she does not know who these people are! I know I am not totally culturally sound, but damn, she beats me ten fold!
Anyways, off to listen to Candle in the Wind, then to the store for yummy foodstuffs.
