Divine Right
He is a prince among these people; innocent. Confused. Tormented and tortured and rejected, cast aside by the people who brought him to this Island, to this world. He is a prince, favored by the immortal king, ruling by consent of divine right, as the closest thing to god here rejoices his every sacred breath.
Charles knows what it means, when Benjamin Linus comes to them. Knows as he watches that bandaged chest rise and fall; knows it when Richard looks on with eyes wider, warmer than he’s ever seen them; knows it when Jacob stays silent, and the smoke stays still.
Charles isn’t a fool. He knows.
