I LOVE this!

For a really long time I've been hoping someone would write a quality Ben/Richard fic and this one definitely fits the bill. Your characterization is immaculate; nothing seemed out of character or unsuitable, and the progression of the relationship was totally believable and also beautiful. I'm so impressed, seriously! Fanfic is rarely this good. The dynamic between Ben and Richard played out incredibly well and I like how you included bits of canon to set the scene without disturbing the onscreen story. This is just amazing and I'm going to go re-read it right now. Thank you so much for sharing it!

Goodness - thank you ever so much, truly; I am simultaneously both stunned and thrilled that you so enjoyed this, because I wasn't entirely sure I'd pulled it off very believably at first. I, too, have been wanting to read a decent Ben/Richard fic that wasn't trite or upsettingly out-of-character, and that was part of the reason I decided to try my hand at it in the first place - but that you felt this actually managed to achieve that is so incredibly flattering; again, thank you!

I am in awe at your Richard fics. I didn’t think you could top your last one, but you have. This one answered so many questions for me about Richard’s persona and his relationship with Ben.

There were so many wonderful moments that proved you are a master at characterization.

Richard runs, faster and more frantic than he’s run in many, many years because Richard Alpert doesn’t run, doesn’t have to, because he’s in no hurry to get anywhere.

Perfect! Richard never seems to be in a hurry.

“The same thing that always happens,” Richard answers the horizon, his gaze intent upon the line between land and sky; never faltering, never wavering. “People are greedy, Ben, and they’re cruel. You can’t trust anyone.”

There was so much buried in this statement. You have the foreshadowing we know is coming with Ben’s own leadership. We have Richard’s aching disappointment with the world.

“Sometimes,” Richard stops him, crossing the space to sit down next to Ben, “in waiting for the perfect fit, you have to make do with what you have.”Thanks for ( ... )

I've honestly been sitting here for the better part of an hour trying to figure out a semi-worthwhile response to such an amazing comment. I'll go ahead and start with the obvious - thank you so, so very much; I cannot tell you how happy, not to mention flattered, I am that you enjoyed this so much. I've always loved the character of Richard, perhaps partially because there is so much mystery to feed the imagination surrounding him, but regardless, I've found recently that I really and truly enjoy writing him. Therefore, that you have so enjoyed what I am so enjoying makes me infinitely happy ( ... )

Your Richard characterization is inspiring. You should feel very proud because he is such a tricky character.

And of course, please friend me back!

Thank you! I'm so pleased you enjoyed this; and I really do wish there were more Ben/Richard stories, either romantic or otherwise, because their interaction is something that I think is absolutely superb.

*totally a random lurker popping out of the blue*

I've been looking for a good Ben/Richard fic for what seems like ages now, and was lucky enough to find a link to this story. It's absolutely fantastic. You've done a brilliant job of showing how Richard and Ben's relationship evolves over time as well as the layers and subtleties involved. It's complicated and more than a bit messed-up and oddly beautiful, actually. You've got a very believable dynamic going between them ( ... )

Wow. Just wow. I don't think I'm quite articulate enough to express just how flattered I am that you so enjoyed this - thank you ever so much, truly. I'm particularly thrilled that the dysfunctionality of the whole scenario came across as realistic to you - I wrestled with the transition of their relationship for some time before deciding to just roll with the twisted undertones (overtones, midtones... etc.) Again, thank you; and of course I'd love it if you friended me, especially if we share so many fandom-interests. You've hit on three of my main ones there with Trek, Lost, and Who - just out of curiosity: you don't happen to enjoy LotR, Star Wars, or Iron Man, as well, do you?

*laughs* Actually, those are some of my main fandoms too. I happened to glance through your profile and only recalled the ones I listed in my first comment. As of right now, Lost and Star Wars are my most active fandoms, but I'll happily read and discuss any of the others.

You're very welcome. :D

Heh; I was just working on my rather neglected Iron Man prompt-table, and thought I'd ask whilst I was replying to your lovely comment. I haven't done LotR or Star Wars in a very long time, but on occasion I'll dabble ;)
