She traces his scars as he traces her freckles, little wrinkles at the corners of her eyes because she got in to this too early, too deep, and the stress was something fierce, and time has passed, they’ve both gotten older, and maybe that’s a part of it, maybe that’s why she’s so enthralled with them, together, like this: it’s new where so little feels that way, anymore.
“I knew you weren’t gone,” and she had known, she did: she remembers watching the report in that cafe, hearing it and more than just listening, but absorbing the fact and what it meant, what it had to mean that they didn’t find his body.
She feels the lazy curl of his lips in response, where they kiss up her chest, press into her skin at rough angles, and of course they couldn’t find his body; his body’s right here.
