Highland Wedding Prep

So, the stuff for my kilt has been arriving over the past couple of days and my excitement is palpable. Yesterday I received the hose (Hand-knit by little old ladies in Scotland. Literally. I have a certificate to prove it!), belt, clan buckle, clan kilt pin, flashes, and sporran. Today, I received the sgian dubh. That just leaves the ghillie brogues and corset, which should be coming in over the next few weeks.

I can not express how pleased I am that my uncle is having a highland-themed wedding. It finally gives me justification to splurge on all the kilt accessories I've always wanted to buy but which were "too expensive" for normal consideration. (Also, it allows me to put my credit card to good use and actually start earning credit. I fall firmly in the "if you don't have the money, don't spend it" category, so while I have a credit card I've never used it.) Additionally, it has given me the opportunity to play around with some gender stereotypes. The kilt, sporran, sgian dubh, etc. are all traditionally male dress, while corsets are a predominately female garment. It's interesting to see what people say when I mention wearing one or the other. Actually wearing both and seeing people's reactions should be enlightening.

familial, historicula is weird, general blah
