so i'm sitting here watching 'dazed and confused' on tv. AMC no less.. yeah, it's not really the same.. ha they cut out the cuss words and anyone who is anyone knows that you cannot cut out the cuss words in this movie and it still have the same, impact.. ha ya know??
before this came on, amc did this "making of dazed" thing.. it was kewl.. but i learned a few things i didn't know..
1~wiley wiggins (mitch) got CHUBBY! it's weird.. he was tiny in the movie and now he's kind of a chunk.. ha and he's married and lives in austin texas working as some software guy.. sheesh.. he was totally just pulled off the street to do this movie.. he was actually 1about 16 when he filmed the movie, i thought he was like 14, haha
2~milla jovovitch (michelle) ran off to vegas the oct after the movie was done and married shawn andrews (pickford) her bf on the movie.. she was only 16 so her mother had the marriage annulled.. wow..
3~marissa ribisi (cynthia) is married and pregnant and her last name is hansen.. ha makes me giggle..
4~adam goldberg (mike) wore a wig in the movie.. so did jason o. smith (melvin).. that kids, was not an authentic fro.. ha
5~christin hinojosa (sabrina) was also just a high school kid pulled off the streets of austin to be in the film.. she now works with the program 'eyes wide open'..
6~anthony rapp (tony) is the only actor in the movie who was considered to have real previous experience and was actually known in the business.. though milla (michelle), ben (o'bannion) and cole (benny) all filmed movies a year or so before that were known.. ("return to the blue lagoon"~milla, "school ties"~ben and cole)
7~it was rory cochranes (slater) idea for his character to say "that's what i'm talkin about man" all the time..
8~matthew mcconaughey (wooderson) got his characters "walk" from ZZTop.. and he was a film student at the time, went back and graduated after the film was done.. his dad also died during the filming and he returned to finish and got the line "you just gotta keep livin man, l-i-v-i-n.." from that experience..
9~there was a 10 year anniversary dazed event in austin texas in 2003.. they called it "party at the moon tower" and it was actually held at the moon tower party spot from the film, in austin..
10~someone approaced ben affleck (o'bannion) on the streets of LA offering him a free screening ticket to the film not realizing who he was.. when he asked what the movie was the guy proceeded to bash it saying they couldnt get anyone to watch it and that "nobody" was in it.. when they finally told him the screening was for "dazed and confused" he was shocked..
..it's kind of crazy.. they totally expected this film to be a total flop.. most people gave them shit for it and 80% of the actors didn't get much further after that.. it was filmed in somewhere between 36 and 45 days..
this movie is seriously now a classic.. i don't know many people who don't love it and it was never expected to get far.. i ADORE this movie and it makes me mad i don't own it yet.. i will tho, oh very soon.. ha i remember the first time i watched it, i was at carrie's house, freshmen year and we loved it so much that we gave each other nicknames from the movie depending on which character we crushed on.. her's was "pink", i was "mitch".. haha
anyway kids.. i must sleep soon.. i just wanted to give a lil tribute to one of my all time favorite movies.. i wish some of the actors would have made it further.. it's a great GREAT movie..
