It's a beautiful night in Tofino. There's no moon, but the streetlights are more than enough to light the way. A day of enjoyable housework behind me, and one more tomorrow at the Tofino Trek Inn and my week's stay is paid for. Five days to sit around, enjoy the sights, and plan the future.
lightning crashes, a new mother cries
The world isn't spinning quite as fast as it used to in my previous life as a torontonian. This, by all accounts, is a good thing. I can safely begin to feel emotion again, never fearing that emotions will become the weak points that invite enemy attack. I can also safely dream, too; my thoughts and aspirations will not become targets where enemies disguised as "friends" and "professors" will aim when they want to burn me to the ground.
her placenta falls, to the floor
With every deep breath of salty fresh air coming off the ocean, my spirit builds itself up from the rubble, born anew from the ashes of what's left after nearly five years of post-secondary hell. My spirit rears its head from inside my chest, and peers to the sky with spread wings.
the angel opens her eyes
I'm not flying yet. But, I'm close. And when I am, I'll be able to fly higher and farther than I ever could before. Am I endorsing the things my school did to me? Am I encouraging future students to join a school whose student union actively supports a mafia parading as a "federation of students?" Or whose leader is proud to spread anti-semitic messages on the internet? Or pushing students toward a department whose chair lies, cheats, and blackmails students (such as me) to do their dirty work, not giving two shits what happens to them? No. I would never wish a Ryerson commerce degree upon my worst enemy. 75% of it was a bane to my existence and forever will be. But, without that destructive force in my life, I could never become what I will.
the confusion sets in,
before the doctor can even close the door
I now have a clean start. All that I couldn't be before was cleared away with that school's relentless path of destruction. My spirit was crushed, but so with it went everything in my person that stopped me--fear, misery, naivety, too many traits to mention. It is only now that I have the clarity and the focus to achieve; to create; to build my role in society, and to make society a better place because of it.

this moment she's been waiting for
The fog is starting to set in over the town. Orange hazes erupt from the energy-efficient streetlamps cutting through the mist, creating an eerie yet somehow romantic scene outside the picture window next to me.
the angel opens her eyes,
It's probably cold and wet, but inside I'm warm with these thoughts and feelings coursing through my veins. Tonight I finally feel like the person I've always longed to be. Tonight, I'm born anew.
