letter from the future

Feb 16, 2013 23:08

It came in a strange envelope, this letter dated January 1st 2050, words of experience from the future, from my future self. Aware of the need not to disrupt the space-time continuum, my future self was judicious enough not to disclose information such as winning lottery numbers, to my considerable chagrin.
'Realize Ben, that events do not proceed in linear fashion' went the advice. 'Thus even though you are bombarded daily with advice to pursue study that is clearly linked to a line of work, trust me when I say that that advice is bad. If you trust your heart you will go places you never imagined, meet the most fascinating people, and live a life that is rich and deeply meaningful. Go be a philosopher - mathematician - sociologist or whatever you develop a passion for. Explore - and grow - don't be a follower. I cannot tell you where to go but you know deep in your heart that the way of growth is to leave your comfort zones, the places you are familiar with and the security that comes with the closeness of your loved ones. Know Ben, that it is the journey and not the destination that counts, so stop worrying so much about what to do or which decisions to make but enjoy the ride..'

PS. note from future self to present me: stop wasting sleepless nights wondering why you seem to be forever alone, and why your current life seems so glum. Trust me soon you will meet an outstandingly beautiful girl and you will find in time to come that she is the one you would love to grow old with (*chest bump). And you will lead a deeply rewarding life. Selfless and intrepid, it is the ride of life.

Yours Sincerely
Ben from the future.
