I had originally planned to take a vacation starting last Sunday. The plan was to get out to at least part of ConDFW and have a nice long week off and enjoy Furry Fiesta the following weekend as well. Unfortunately the company's internal email system for managing these sort of things decides to screw up, and neither of my managers got the request and I got screwed out of my time off. I was guilted into staying, since we were down three people of late due to transfers, retirements and one person who quit.
My biggest problem is this automated HR system they have installed a few years ago that eliminates paper forms. It's all nice and good for the trees and all, but makes it damn hard to hold your managers accountable when there is no paper trail. I'll be putting off my vacation for a little while, and when I do put in my time off request I'll make sure to print out a copy of the digital request and stick it in their inboxes just to make sure.
Meanwhile on the artistic front, I'm feeling quite accomplished keeping up my comic schedule since January, and I've even kept a bit ahead for a while too. All the while I've experimented with a few different artistic techniques. I've tried a couple different methods of computer coloring, prismacolor markers, and even watercolors over the past few weeks. Right now I'm cycling back to computer coloring, though I am thinking I'll go for a watercolor washed look than the color flats and various effects I've played around with in the past. It does seem to be a bit time consuming, so far I've done two panels, and they have taken me close to an hour each to color, but I am liking the results so far.
