Part Two:
“You couldn’t have seen Yoseob. He’s…” Dongwoon stopped himself from saying the word. He looked at Hyunseung, then to Junhyung. They were looking at each other, not moving or blinking.
“Do you think it’s possible…?” Hyunseung whispered. Junhyung shook his head and Hyunseung’s face fell a little bit more. “You’re right. What am I thinking?”
“What we could have seen was his ghost. I mean, he did die unexpectedly before Doojoon and Kikwang’s wedding. He could have some unfinished business.”
“Are you saying that a ghost is going to attend a wedding?” Both guys looked to Dongwoon once he spoke. He took a small step backward. “I’ll just be in my room.”
After Dongwoon left, Junhyung and Hyunseung rushed downstairs. The found a few papers scattered on the floor by the coffee table, a pen on the table. At closer inspection, Junhyung found a portion of one article circled. It hadn’t been that way when he hurried upstairs.
“Look at this, Hyunseung…” he murmured. He showed the paper to the other, a small squeak escaping him when he read it.
“…last seen in a dark green mustang, wearing baggy pants, a gray hoodie, and carrying a loaded handgun,” Hyunseung read. He looked at Junhyung. “This is something we already knew.”
Hyunseung did as he was told, skimming over the words until something caught his eye. He read it aloud. “His home is supposedly located near the western side of Seoul. The building was meant to be abandoned, but after officials have searched it, it appears to be inhabited by the same man. A dark green mustang has been parked behind the building for the past week.”
“Something new.”
“But how did you find this among every article, Junhyung? It would have taken a while.”
Junhyung sighed, knowing that Hyunseung wouldn’t think him as a crazy person. “I didn’t find it. This particular page was under all of those.” He pointed to the ground. “And this pen wasn’t here, either. Someone’s helping us.”
“Who would do that, though?”
“Take one guess.” Junhyung smiled, watching Hyunseung’s eyes widen in amazement.
“Yoseob.”
“Bingo. I thought I saw him on our way here, standing on the sidewalk. I was staring out the window and it sure as hell looked like him.”
“And in your room…”
“You said you saw him. He has unfinished business, and he’s helping us solve his murder.”
“But why are we the only ones who can-” he was cut off by a crash from upstairs. It was accompanied by a scream and footsteps thundering down the stairs. Dongwoon rushed into the living room, panting.
“I saw Yoseob just now!” he panted. He brushed his hair out of his face with shaky hands. “He was standing there in front of me and he smiled.”
“Really?” Junhyung asked in a mocking tone. “But how could a dead person be in your room?”
“Knock it off!” Hyunseung barked. He turned to Dongwoon. “Did he give you any clues as to who killed him?”
“Clues? What do you mean?”
Hyunseung shoved the circled article at Dongwoon. He read it over and stared at it for a minute. Another sound came from Dongwoon’s room. He looked toward the stairs before the other two raced up them. He followed, tripping on the last step.
“Look,” Hyunseung breathed, pointing to the wall. In some sort of red ink, the date 5/12 was scrawled across it. Under it, was the time 9:23 pm. “What do you think it means?”
“It’s exactly a month after the accident and the same time…” Dongwoon said.
“It’s when we’re supposed to catch the guy who killed Yoseob,” Junhyung concluded. “The twelfth is exactly one month after he was shot, as Dongwoon said. And it was at 9:23 pm when he died.” He looked at the other two, who were staring at him blankly. “That building, we have to be there at that time on the twelfth. Yoseob wants us there.”
“But why?”
“Why else?” Junhyung waited for the others to respond when a knock on the front door made them all jump. The three went down together to answer it. It was Doojoon and Kikwang. They entered the house, apparently spooked about something.
“What’s wrong?” Dongwoon asked.
“We saw Yoseob…” Kikwang whispered. He sat on the couch, that expression still on his face. “He was in our kitchen, by the fridge.”
“What was he doing?” Hyunseung prodded, sitting next to Kikwang. The younger looked up at him, then to Doojoon.
“He was staring at the calendar,” Doojoon replied.
“Did you look at it after he left?” Junhyung questioned.
“Yeah. It was turned to next month. The twelfth was circled in red and a time was written there.”
“What was the time?”
“9:23 pm. Why?”
Junhyung looked at Hyunseung and Dongwoon. He returned his attention to Doojoon. “Was there anything else?”
“Just this,” Kikwang interrupted, pulling out a small piece of paper. An address was written across it in the same red ink.
“That’s the number of the building that guy is staying at. The one that was supposed to be abandoned,” Dongwoon confirmed.
“Yoseob really is helping us out, isn’t he?” Hyunseung asked Junhyung.
“Yeah. All five of us witnessed him today and all five of us are supposed to be at that building next month.”
“What for?”
Junhyung turned his eyes to Doojoon, smiling slightly. “To catch the guy who killed him. On Dongwoon’s wall is the same date and time on your calendar. In the circled article, it’s the same place as on that piece of paper.”
“By why did he write it in red? He hates that color.”
Junhyung thought for a moment before something dawned on him. “It’s not ink…” He rushed up the stairs, followed closely by the others. He opened the door to Dongwoon’s room and turned directly to the wall. The supposed ink had darkened in shade to a blackish red color.
“What the hell?” Dongwoon asked. Junhyung walked over to it and fished his pocket knife from his pocket. He scraped the blade over a part of the mark and it flaked off. He turned to the others, a spark of what seemed like fear glimmering in his eyes.
“It’s blood.”
