Chapter Three:
A week passed by quickly. Junhyung had only been back once, and that was to get some of his things. He was staying in a hotel. Dongwoon and Kikwang tried to call him several times, but he ignored their calls. Sure, he still showed up to practice and rehearsal. He was the last to arrive and the first to leave. While they practiced, he would just watch his reflection in the mirrors, not exchanging words with the other members. He wouldn’t even look in Hyunseung’s general direction.
“Junhyung, just come home already,” Doojoon said after the music stopped. They had been practicing for their upcoming show.
“No,” Junhyung replied. His response startled Doojoon since that’s the first word he uttered in the whole week.
“You look horrible,” Yoseob explained, walking over to Junhyung.
“What else is new?”
“Knock off the attitude, hyung!” Dongwoon ordered. “Just because you’re mad at Hyunseung, doesn’t mean you have to ignore the rest of us.”
“Yah, Junhyung!” someone shouted from the door. Everyone looked over to see who it was. They were shocked when they saw YG Entertainment’s Big Bang standing there. “You up for going to the bars tonight?”
Junhyung stuffed his things into his duffel bad and threw it over his shoulder. “I’m coming.” He walked over to the other band. As soon as he reached them, he smiled. The members of Beast were shocked into silence.
“Hi, Hyunseung!” Daesung shouted across the room, waving. Hyunseung forced a smile, but only nodded in return. He was too busy watching how Junhyung was laughing with Seungri and Jiyong.
“Let’s go! Let’s go! I’ve been looking forward to this all week!” T.O.P said, leading them from the room. Their laughter echoed down the hall, drifting back to Beast’s ears.
Hyunseung slumped against the wall, refusing to look at his friends. He pulled his legs to his chest and wrapped his arms around them. Resting his chin on his knees, he sighed. Someone tapped him on the shoulder. He finally looked up.
“Make up with him already,” Kikwang murmured. “You’re hurting just as much as he is.”
“It sure doesn’t seem like he’s hurting,” Yoseob interrupted. He stood next to Kikwang.
“He’s good at hiding his pain,” Hyunseung stated. “Besides, I know he’s still upset and hurt because of me.”
“What makes you say that?”
Hyunseung looked at the blond. “Because he’s been drinking…” Kikwang and Yoseob exchanged a glance.
“But hyung doesn’t drink,” Dongwoon said, walking up with Doojoon.
Hyunseung shrugged. “He didn’t drink before last week. I was out with Sang Ki the other night and we saw Junhyung drinking at a bar. When he saw the two of us, he downed half of a bottle in one shot.”
“Is he jealous of Sang Ki?” Doojoon asked. They sat down on the floor around Hyunseung.
“No, he’s not jealous.” Hyunseung placed his forehead on his knees and closed his eyes. “He’s angry at Sang Ki.”
“Why would Junhyung be angry at him?” Yoseob thought back to the week before. He gasped. “This wouldn’t have anything to do with you lying for Sang Ki, would it?” When Hyunseung nodded, Yoseob made him look up. “What was it you lied for him about?”
Hyunseung sighed. He slumped against the wall in defeat as he stared up at the members of Beast. “He hits me,” he mumbled. His voice was inaudible.
“What?” Doojoon asked, frowning and leaning closer.
Inhaling, Hyunseung sat up straightly. “I said he hits me!” His voice echoed through the practice room. When it faded, Hyunseung slumped back against the wall, angry tears in his eyes. “Sang Ki hits me and Junhyung was fed up with it. So Junhyung hit Sang Ki and everything went downhill after that.”
“Hyung, does he still hit you?” Kikwang murmured.
“He hits me all the time, Kikwang. It got worse after Junhyung knocked him out, but sometimes it’s not so bad…”
“Not so bad?” Yoseob barked.
“He’s always said he loves me, so why does it matter?”
“Because, someone hitting you is not love! How can you stay with a prick like that?! I side with Junhyung on this!”
“He threatened me that if I broke up with him because of Junhyung or any of you, he would come after me…”
“As in, try to kill you…?” Dongwoon whispered.
“So just break up with him for hitting you.”
“I can’t. He’ll know why I did.”
Doojoon rubbed his temples, trying to get rid of the headache starting. “Look, just…disappear for a while. Don’t tell anyone where you’re going and just leave.”
Hyunseung shook his head. “I’ll deal with it. It’s not so bad…”
“Not so bad?” Junhyung’s voice echoed over from the door, startling them. “Hyunseung, not so bad is when you get a splinter or stung by a bee. Not so bad is when you get a C on an assignment in school. Not so bad is-”
“Okay, Junhyung, I get it!” Hyunseung shouting startled him. The tears he wanted to hold back so badly finally fell from his eyes. “I get it that he’s horrible! I get it that he’s nothing but a bastard! But I can’t just leave!”
“Why not?” Kikwang asked, trying to give his hyungs time to calm down a little.
Hyunseung exposed his torso, revealing several cuts, bruises, and gashes. “Because the last time I tried to leave, this happened!” He collapsed to the floor, his legs unable to hold his weight. He wiped at his face, trying to rid himself of the tears. “Sang Ki has already tried to kill me since Junhyung knocked him out. It was two days ago. All of this happened yesterday when I told him that I had enough.”
Seeing the wounds on his friend, Junhyung hurried forward, kneeling before his friend. He was lured in by Hyunseung’s wounds, angry at himself that he couldn’t make them stop. “Seungie…” The elder allowed himself to be hugged by Junhyung, somewhat relieved that he was speaking to him again. “Seungie, I don’t want you around him anymore.”
“There’s nothing I can do, Junnie.” Hyunseung wrapped his arms around the other, clinging to him for support. “He’ll kill me, Junnie, if I try to leave…”
“I won’t let him touch you, Hyunseung.” He shook his head. “We’ll go away somewhere.”
“I can’t. he’ll track me down and hurt me.” Hyunseung pulled back, forcing Junhyung to look at him. “I can’t let him hurt you, Junnie.”
Junhyung pulled the elder close, their lips brushing together in a soft kiss. “I won’t let him hurt you. Even if we have to run for the rest of our lives, I’ll protect you, Hyunseung.”
“But what about Beast? W-what about our careers? Our fans?”
“They’ll still be here. I’ll go to the president of CUBE and ask him if we can take a vacation. While you two go elsewhere, we’ll go in the opposite direction of you to throw him off track,” Doojoon explained.
“Then let’s get packing.” Junhyung pulled Hyunseung to his feet, kissing him again. “I won’t let Sang Ki hurt you anymore, Seungie.”
Junhyung grasped Hyunseung’s hand, pulling him toward the door. The two of them stopped, seeing Sang Ki standing there, bloodlust the only emotion showing in his eyes.
“If you aren’t mine, Hyunseung,” Sang Ki growled, “you aren’t going to be anybody’s.” He pulled out a handgun, pulling the trigger on the couple before him.
