1-23-13 Homemade Uniforms

May 02, 2013 20:59

Some kids wear polo’s and slacks
Okay. EVERY kid wears polo’s and slacks,
except for THIS kid.
I am the unfortunate.
When one’s mom wants to make their uniform
One cannot hurt her determined eyes

Suddenly the house is laid out with waves of kaki and navy blue fabric.
I am measured
Patterns are pinned on fabric
And
with
each
cut
made
into
the
material
My social life cringes.

Evenings are spent holding still
And being pricked by needles
At the end of the week
Five blouses and pants are made.

Blouses: Button up with curved 50’s style collar
Pants: Waist begins under breast and pant legs end above ankles

Let the therapy begin.
