So, my laptop's hard disk spontaneously stopped working, while the machine was on. No warning, no bad sectors, no noises. It just stopped working. Oh well, not like I needed my data anyway.
So, after a few calls to Acer, they ship me a replacement drive. A week and a half later, the new drive is here, along with (for some reason) a new keyboard.
So, I bring the laptop and the new drive into work (where there is a large assortment of tools and screwdrivers) and pull out the old hard disk.
It's held in some sort of mounting bracket that keeps it in place. Okay, sure.
I pull out the new drive.
It's not in a mounting bracket.
The old drive won't come out of its mounting bracket.
Oh, and did i mention that the Owner's Manual has a section labelled 'replacing the hard disk' that says nothing but 'contact your manufacturer for support'?
