Carry You Home ~ James Blunt
If she had wings she would fly away,
And another day God will give her some.
Trouble is the only way is down.
Down, down.
As strong as you were, tender you go.
I'm watching you breathing for the last time.
A song for your heart, but when it is quiet,
I know what it means and I'll carry you home.
Kryptonite ~ 3 Doors Down
I watched the world float to the
Dark side of the moon
After all I knew it had to be something
To do with you
I really don't mind what happens now and then
As long as you'll be my friend at the end
Better Days ~ Goo Goo Dolls
And you asked me what I want this year
and I try to make this kind and clear
just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
'cause I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
and designer love and empty things
just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
I need some place simple where we could live
and something only you can give
and that's faith and trust and peace while we're alive

Quinn corners Kurt on his way to Algebra, extending one dainty trainer-clad foot to trip him. He avoids the trap neatly, and ignores her. She does the next best thing, (because no one avoids Quinn Fabray and lives,) and shoves into him, sending them both flying into the wall.
"Oops, clumsy me," she says innocently, bending to pick up her fallen binder (it won't be long now before she can't do even that, but the nightmares are for another day.)
"More than an elephant, yes," agrees Kurt carelessly, venom flashing in those porcelain-china eyes. "If you're done trampling over people like a lumbering oaf, can I go now?" She's not really stopping him, but the way she's angled her body makes it clear she wants to be confrontational. To his surprise, she backs against a wall of lockers, giving him way.
"Just wanted to let you know that I see what you're doing."
Kurt turns back, eyebrow arching. "Yay. You have a pair of eyes. And you use them."
"Tina saw you," goes on Quinn, watching him carefully. "In your basement? With Brittany."
"I don't know what she thinks she saw." A quaver ghosts over Kurt's voice, but he holds it together pretty well.
"Brittany tells me she's finally done a perfect score of the whole grade. We cheerleaders tend to talk, you know. I just wish I knew why you bother go into all this trouble." She nods at his impeccably put-together clothes, nose turning up: presumably that is what all this trouble refers to.
"That's my business, isn't it?" Kurt smiles, briefly, tautly, and really leaves this time.
Later, there's a note stuffed into her locker. Guess who gets to use the girls' locker room showers instead of the biohazard pit in the boys'. She smiles, and tucks it between the leaves of her binder, next to a cheesy letter from Finn, one of the few things she treasures.

"You. Bastard."
Kurt barely as time to look up from his Glee rehearsal sheet music when someone shoves him so hard he's sent flying over the piano stool. He pushes himself upright, ready to face Puck's overbearing righteous wrath, but there's a crying, red-faced girl standing over him. For a minute, he thinks she's going to slap him too, but she drops down on the ground beside him, shoving him again. The force has gone out of her, but the tears don't stop.
"Finn told me. Finn told me what you did. I told you there's never any secrets. How could you? I thought we were friends. You helped me. You're on my side. You utter, utter..." The word doesn't come to her lips again. She's not really used to swearing, but the incoherent furious despair makes her sputter.
He doesn't know what to say.
"You don't even like Finn. You don't even want to be with him."
She flinches away from the hand he's about to put on her shoulder, and messily drags her sleeve across her face.
"You did this to hurt me. You did."
Kurt still has no words.
"I'm sorry I trusted you. I will never, ever know what goes on through that twisted head of yours. What pure selfishness must motivate you, I don't even care."
He mutters something that she doesn't catch.
"Don't bother apologising."
"I wasn't going to." She glowers at him through her tears. "You can be a martyr for someone else. And we both know I didn't do it for Finn, I did it for you."
"You're a liar."
"Princess, you lied about it first."
