i would think anytime during the pregnancy? i dont know ahything about showers but being pregnant is stressfull enough and the party is for you so whenever you would be able to enjoy it the most seems like the best time to do it
If you wait too late, your baby could end up the guest of honour like mine did! I had my shower planned for 38w3d and he came at 37w3d. I don't think 2 months early is too early. That's when I had my shower for my first.
see, I don't really understand the problem with that.. I've never once been to a baby shower when the baby hasn't been born, for us, part of the joy of the shower is seeing the new baby!
I live in BC, just like you, so it's definitely not an American thing.
I personally don't like my brand new baby at my shower because there are too many people there. It's too overwhelming and too many germs and stuff floating around. Granted, there were 50 people at my first shower (my daughter) and about 35 at my second (my son).
Eeeps! I don't want to sound harsh, but since you're asking this as an etiquette question, not a logistics question, the answer is that it's not (traditionally) appropriate to throw your own shower. It's supposedly seen as being greedy, since the point of a shower is to shower the honoree with gifts and you're not supposed to ask for people to give you gifts
( ... )
Okay, to clear everyone up on this one: I am not actually throwing it, but it cannot be that much of a surprise since my schedule is rather unpredictable. I'm just trying to find the right time to do it. My schedule doesn't open up until the end of September. Believe me, I'm not doing the planning. After my wedding, if I can let someone else do it, that's fine.
I'm not even really thinking about the registry stuff right now. I'd just like to meet up with all of the girls I'm not going to see for a while and be nice and girly that day.
Mine was thrown for me at 7 months. I think that's a good time, just in case you're early. It also gives you a chance to get the rest of the stuff off your registry that you didn't receive at your shower, before the baby is born.
