Shower etiquette

Okay, I'm due in December.
I'm trying to get a bead on when to have my baby shower.
I will be having relatives and possibly friends from out of town attending.
My husband says having the shower in October is too early.
I think it's a perfectly adequate time.
What is the average time to have a baby shower?
The month before or two months before?
