I had a somewhat strange experience.
I went venturing through the village and to the bridge once again. Its ussually late at night when I go do this... I actually just stepped in. I felt calm tonight, unlike other nights. The night was warm and I felt good and comfortable. I made it to the bridge and as I sat down on the stone, I noticed two figures moving in the water. One followed the other. They were brown and shined to look slimy in the nightlight. They moved around playfully, and I wasnt disturbed by them, nor they by me. Usually, I would get scared in a situation like that, because one can never be too certain how an animal will react. They eventually came out of the water, and stood just two metres or so below me. They looked like beavers, but were a bit thinner and didnt have flat wide tails. Then, out of nowhere, I heard a rustle and a raccoon came out of the bushes. He came close to the thing touched it with its paw, and then the thing went back into the water. I sat amused, wandering if they would see me, but moreso watchfully enthralled than anything else. The raccoon began to walk towards me, and then made a sudden turn to create more space between us so that it can walk towards the bridge. When it got there, it stood looking at me for a while. Mind you, we were about two metres apart. Then it walked right under the base of the bridge. I relaxed and stretched out on the rock. I thought about how the term "the dead of night" isnt really true, and how amazing it is that these animals and creatures are constantly in motion, and how detached humans have become from them. We only really get glimpses of what they do. But they think, and they are curious just as we are...
I lay there for a while, as I looked at a bug moving steadily on the trunk of the tree just above me. We were all connected. I could feel the energy strong, and as I became more and more intune with it, my eyes led me from the sky to look under the bridge. My eyes met with the raccoon. Apparantly, I was interesting to him. We looked at each other and looked, and I was so blown away by the curiousity that I didnt know whether to stay and stare or get up and walk away before it attacked me. But it didnt. It was afraid too. He kept going under the bridge, nodding his head up and down, and coming back. He did this a few times.
I wanted to stay and see what happens. To see whether he would get closer to me. But at the same time, that thought made be slightly uneasy. I hesitantly got up and walked off. Though I stalled several times on the abandoned road, wanting to go back.
I've said this many times before, but I will say it again: nature will never cease to amaze me.
And it shouldn't, because I am nature, and you are nature, and true beauty is nature. And it is mysterious and fascinating. It makes one more aware and more alive just watching it.
