Butterflies are (not) Free

May 01, 2008 23:31

I had an amazing Monday this week. I slept in, watched a movie, did a load of laundry, and still had time to go to three of my favorite places: Krohn Conservatory, Bible study, and Monday night Contra. I think it may have been the absolute best Monday yet. And I also went out to eat with Derrick and had time for dessert too. We stopped in at the Conservatory for the butterfly exhibit which was only $6 and well worth it. Of course I brought my camera, as you can see, and I discovered that I absolutely love butterflies. I'd like to have one as a pet actually. Is that possible I wonder? To find a nice little caterpillar and keep him in a fish tank with netting?

I'm reading at least four books now. I really shouldn't start new ones before finishing others, but I can't seem to help myself. I just started John Piper's Don't Waste Your Life. I'm also reading a book on emotional eating, one on historical preservation, and I really must get back to Martin Luther's Bondage of the Will before I abandon it forever. A bit of light reading I dare say.

I've watched a lot of movies lately as well. Rather than write a paragraph I'll make it easy for you:

Enchanted: beautiful, endearing, wonderful score
I Am Legend:  loved it, cried, want the dog, need to read the book
Once: sweet, lovely, liked the ending
The Jane Austen Book Club: surprisingly well written and adorable
La Vie En Rose: wonderful, very French, want to own it, made me ache

Whew, it's unusual for me to actually watch that many recently released movies in a month.

Also in the news:  Megan reports that one of her friends was contacted by the CIA, because she had been surfing several jihadist leaning websites, and told simply that she had been flagged and they just wanted to check in and let her know. Megan told me this after I told her how much I loved reading Aljazeera's news website. Now I sincerely doubt that they flag everyone who reads Aljazeera, however, it made me want just a little, out of curiosity, to see if I could get myself flagged somehow. Because that would give me something to laugh about for months. It's something Kevin would do.

Back to being a good citizen. I sent off my absentee ballot today. I won't tell you who I voted for for President. It made me cringe to have to pick. I decided a while back that I would vote in the democratic primary, and I sincerely regretted it once I saw the names in writing on that official piece of paper. I prayed, held my breath, and picked one. I felt better about local elections, but I must say, it's very distressing that there aren't more (any) women running for office that are pro-life. This Emily's list business makes me sick to my stomach.

And to any questions about what I'm doing when I return to NC in 49 days (not that I'm counting) I say,

I have not a clue
but I will see you.
