I sold a prescription today

Okay, so I sold many prescriptions today. But there was this one, in particular. Well, four to be precise, although two of them amounted to 5 bucks. The other two, well, they pushed the total up to $2,323.96. Yes, kids, drugs are expensive. At least, the ones needed to beat brain cancer are expensive. My sister evidently plans on going to pharmacy school.

And my question for the day:

Will we, as a society, be able to afford these high-cost prescriptions in the future? These and other high-cost health associated items worry me a great deal. Are we heading for a healthcare breakdown?

Future? As opposed to now? Those that can, do. Those that can't, die. Luckily, the more common problems are solved by more common drugs that are easily affordable. Paying cash for a round of amoxicillin isn't going to break the bank. The research was done a long time ago, it's been paid off. The research for fancy astrocytoma-blasting drugs...well, it'll be awhile. And as the cost of research goes up, so will the cost of new drugs. But the old ones will become less expensive.

Oh yes, and that $2,323.96 was with insurance. Without, the one prescription that was ~$1600 would have been ~$4000.
