Ok, here's the deal in a nutshell. Odds are very good that I'm going to get a job teaching at Fairfax High School in the fall. Part of making sure I get that job is to become a substitute in the Fairfax school system and do a long term sub situation with the current theater teacher there.
Factors in play:
1) Driving back and forth from Gaithersburg to Fairfax puts a serious strain on my car. I'm doing it occasionally now, but everyday for a couple weeks, the miles add up and the fuel bill goes a little nuts. Now, it's not impossible to drive this, it's 26.9 miles one way. But that's 26.9 miles of beltway and 270 and NoVa construction traffic. I'd really rather not do that long term. What can be 30 minutes at one time of day can easily become 120 at another time of day.
2) Moving down there. An option, to be sure, but it's hard to find a place that I'll be able to afford in the short term, while waiting for the good teacher money to come in. I have to be able to somehow shoulder the initial cost of moving my ass down there, and deal with the fact that I currently have no roommate prospects and living on my own seems a touch out of reach at my current income level. And if I do find a tiny little hole in the wall to tide me over, getting out of there before a year lease is up is an issue. Because I imagine when I start making real money, the hole in the wall will suddenly seem even less fun
3) Possibility that I won't, ultimately, get this job and then have moved down to fairfax for no gain. Unlikely, but possible. Like I said at the top, odds are very good, but nothing's set in stone right now.
4) Concern that living on my own will not be good for me. I have hermit and pack rat tendencies that are best kept at bay by sharing living space. Not a major factor, but one to put out there.
5) Jabberwocky. Always watch out for that fucker. He's a sneaky little bitch. And my Vorpal blade is unreliable at best.
