Maddy found herself in her cousin's sitting room and was beside herself that she got to spend her birthday with her favorite cousin. Growing up she hadn't known any of her extended family aside from her grandfather, so it was a treat to spend time with the rest of her family.
She couldn't deny it was always a bit sad not to see her parents on special holidays like this; she could remember the amazing cakes they used to make her every year, as they did own a sweet shop. She had decided long ago though not to dwell on things like that. You can only move forward in life after all.
The thought of years past did remind her of something though, "Hey, Do you think we could bake a cake?" She was grinning from ear to ear, sure her idea was brilliant.
