It was one of those rare occasions when Professor Askes took it upon himself to leave his lofty chambers and meander around the grounds for a spot of fresh air. It was healthy, after all, not to keep himself cooped up for so long with his numbers. And soon, it would be winter, which would make getting down to the grounds far more difficult. Soon the steps he stood on now would be covered with ice. Sorrows, with his hunched back and the cane he carried in his left hand, would have trouble walking on the ice. During winter, the only fresh air he would be able to get would be from an open window. So, it was good to take in the last, fleeting breaths of Autumn.

A small bell jingled at his feet and he smiled down at the long-haired kneazle that accompanied him, like a guard of honor.

"Yes, thank you, Sum," he said, gently, his smile widening. "You did a magnificent job in helping your friend down here," he informed the kneazle, bending his knees the slightest so he could pat him on the head. The cat-like creature purred and nuzzled his master's hand affectionately.

"We will have us a walk around the grounds, will we not?" Sorrows asked the beast, who mewled a response. "What's good for me is good for you as well, my dear. You are getting fat from loitering around my classroom and eating off my saucer."
