Jackie Zhang was an expert nudger.

It really didn’t take much for her to get Sly’s attention, but this whole affair of meeting outside the Great Hall, coupled by her now very intriguing proposition of ‘going somewhere private’ really had all his alert signals blaring now. He might have known better than to waggle suggestively at her like he might some other girls, especially given how driven he was at this point to stay purely innocent and platonic with her.

But man did it take some effort. Those eyebrows. They wanted to waggle.

He did allow himself a small smirk, however, and replied, “Sure, darlin’. Everythin’ alright then?” The Jackster seemed a little… well, was it concerned? Or anxious? Sly could not quite pinpoint it, perhaps it was a mixture of both. He was perfectly prepared to beat anything into a pulp that was worrying her, if that was the case.

Sly slid his hands into his pockets and nodded his head toward the staircase. “Alcove, y’reckon?”

"Yeah... everything's fine..." Relief washed over Jackie's features as she nodded. At least, he didn't seem suspicious and he didn't grill her on the spot. That was nice. Yes, Jackie, you can do this. She gave him a reassuring smile. She definitely didn't have anybody she needed him to beat up for her.

"The alcove? That sounds perfect." She brightened. She hadn't been back there since their little mix-up a month ago, and didn't think of suggesting it because she didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable again. She had actually considered using it as a place to study, but she figured Sly probably brought other girls to it and didn't want to disturb him there.

"So... umm... how are things?" she asked, feeling a bit stupid to ask a question like that even though she didn't want to appear nervous. She thought maybe with a little conversation as they walked, she would lose some of those butterflies in her stomach. "Are you going to the Winter Ball on Friday?"

Aw, Jackie.
Yeah, that was pretty much the general reaction to the lass from everyone. Aw, Jackie.

Sly grinned down at her and chuckled softly, shrugging his feet casually up the stairs as they talked. “Things, things… I s’pose they’re farin’ well enough,” he replied jocularly, and he reached a hand out of his pocket to tug on her hair. “And things with yeeeuuuu?”

Ahhh, the ball.

“Aye, m’takin’ Emmy,” he explained shortly. “Y’know, since her boy-o up and fled the coop, dinnae want her to feel sad and left out an’… well… I weren’t about to let her mope in her little bird tower, now was I?” Sly grinned impishly at his friend. “Wha’bout you, eh? Snagged a bloke or two or ten, I bet?”

He winked, picking up the pace a bit as they hopped up the staircases and shuffling a little as they had the whim to change.

"Things are okay..." Jackie smiled. There really wasn't much new since last they spoke, and she had been trudging along trying not to miss her friends who had left. Well... there was the Club but she was going to tell him about that soon enough. "Nothing to complain about... I think everybody's just anxious about the holidays."

"Ah! Of course not." She grinned. Leave it to Sly to cheer up Emmy. "So... no Lauren and no harem this time?" she teased. "I think Emmy is much better than your usual flock of birds." She winked, and then proceeded to laugh at his impish grin and remark about snagging a bloke. "Ha ha! Me and a bloke? Not in that way," she chided him. "I asked a friend - Jory - do you know him? - to come. Just as friends, mind you. No one asked me, so I thought if I dragged him along with my other friends - since I know Ari is dragging Luc - we'd have a great big group thing." She smiled and shrugged. The same old 'nobody sees me that way' excuse lingering in the back of her mind ( ... )
