"Well, considering half of them don't even bother showing up anymore, I think a more apt question would be how many in my class are going to bother doing the assignment." Ranger sighed quietly and sat back down, dressed back in his regular clothes again and nice and dry (god bless magic). He shook his head and raked his fingers through his hair before leaning back against his hands. "Don't know why they bothered signing up for the class if they weren't ever going to be there for it. We're in a sixth year, for crying out loud..."

Ranger let out a puff of air and went back to gazing across the water, smiling slightly as he saw a familiar tentacle break the surface briefly before disappearing under the water once more.

Will, too, smiled at the sight of the squid. Really, it was just like he told Shihoko, the thing wasn't nearly as bad as...

And then his mind had drifted back to Shihoko, and he found the smile slipping, though he quickly hiked it back up, turning to chuckle softly. "Now, see, the squid could take either of us out, no problem. But I don't think it's really necessary to be afraid of it...it's never really tried to hurt a student before, I don't think. Even plays around with a few, in the shallows, when it's warmer out."

He sat back slightly, head tilting consideringly. "Not as bad as you'd think, first looking at him."

"He's certainly more helpful than anything else..."

Ranger trailed off quietly and shifted his gaze to the side to look at Will out of the corner of his eyes. Really, he was just...stop that, Ranger, or you're going to be distracted and miss out on a conversation point. He was about to open his mouth to say something else when a shape moving along the edge of the Forest caught his eyes.

"Ssh ssh ssh..." Ranger scooted in toward Will and pointed toward the forest. He leaned in close and dropped his voice to a murmur. "I think I see someth---there! Did you see it?"

"Eh? What?"

Will blinked and followed Ranger's gaze towards the edge of the forest. Something moving around in there = something not good, in Will's humble opinion, and whatever it was, he hoped it STAYED in the forest.

No, ever since finding 'Fluffy' in that place, he'd long decided to steer clear of it. The very thought of what large, dark shapes could be moving about between those trees was enough to give him goosebumps, and he shook his head quickly.

"I didn't see anything...you don't think it's coming this way do-"

And the remainder of the sentence stuck in his throat as he turned back to Ranger, only to notice that they were, perhaps, centimeters apart. With Ranger's extended arm nearly around his shoulders.

Cue the blood rushing into his face...now.

Whatever was in the forest had temporarily been forgotten, and now he was rather stuck staring at Ranger, lips still parted slightly in surprise.

Come on, MOVE, you idiot! Or he's going to notice!

Consider that little voice screaming in his head ignored.

"I doubt that it's going to go an...y...where..."

Ranger blinked at Will's sudden turn, and could feel his breath hitch in his throat. He lowered his extended arm to the ground, hand resting against the ground, and he gazed steadily at the other for what felt like an eternity. Something in his body twitched, and Ranger's tongue darted out to quickly wet his lips and he let out a little breath.

Hi there, Sparrow.

There was that twitch again. Ranger leaned forward a little, pulse switching to rapid fire, before a skittering noise sounded behind them. Ranger promptly jerked away and cleared his throat, loudly, almost deeming the squirrel who had interrupted worthy of a glare.

"Well...uh...you know...whatever it was...pretty sure it's gone now. Yep. Gone. All gone. Ran away. Ha ha ha ha...ha.......haa."

Screw the squirrel. Right now, the rocks at our feet are looking pretty interesting.

"Yeah...heh...fancy that."

Oh boy. Not another one of these moments. Will could so definately live without these moments. Now things were going to be all uncomfortable and they weren't going to look each other in the face for a while and...and...

GAAAH! Him and his stupid, unexplainable, inconvenient FEELINGS!

Swallowed hard and compulsively scratching at the back of his arm, Will ventured a grin and quickly glanced up at Ranger, only to quickly look down again. "Yeah...figure...if it's in the forest and all, doesn't necessarily want to be seen...out in the open...and stuff."

And stuff. Lovely. Sparrow at his most eloquent here, ladies and gents.

Ranger really could do with a nice, giant hole swallowing him up at that moment. They should have a spell for that, if they didn't already. He should look into that.

Or something.

Yeah.

"Er, yeah, of course. I mean...you know...that's why they're in there and we're out here. Boundaries. And...all that. Yes."

Smooth, Stalai. Smooth.

Another loud cough and Ranger was hauling himself up to his feet. "So...I have class...soonish. And I know you do, too. So...should probably head in and...get ready for that." Yeah. Class.

Wasn't that whole 'having class' thing just a lifesaver in these situations? It provided ample excuse to run away and try and sink into the floor and NEVER EVER BE FOUND AGAIN.

Or...something along those lines, roughly.

"Yeah...class. And I still have to grab my stuff...you know, in the Common Room, so I should probably..." Motioning hands gestured towards the castle before, slowly, he got to his feet, ignoring the mud on his robes and swallowing hard, again.

"I'll....just go. Oh! And...your hand, you should still have it looked at. Y'know, in...in case," he stammered, before giving a very short nod and fleeing up the hill as fast as his legs could carry him.

Why oh why oh WHY did he have to be such a complete DORK! BAD William, NO cookie!

"Er...yeah. I will. In case. Have a nice class."

Or something.

Ranger watched Will disappear up the hill before promptly smacking his forehead. Repeatedly.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. You almost screwed that one all to hell, Stalai. Way to FREAKING go!

With a sigh, he stooped and picked up his things and started trudging his own way up the hill, muttering to himself all the way about how damn STUPID he was.
