Of course he was outside. Admittedly, the weather wasn't perfect, but it beat pacing stone walls as he had been for about an hour. That had grown pretty old, pretty quick.

He was actually almost halfway down the castle lawn, halfway to his usual station just next to the lake, having chosen a rather comfortable spot under a tree, settled into the slope of the hill. He was rather enjoying the breeze, the fresh, crisp air, and the peace and quiet.

Not to say he wouldn't enjoy a little company, of course. Nudge nudge. Wink wink.

And...ah. There we was. Ranger jogged the rest of the way down to the lakeside and he plopped down beside Will with a bit of a salute, grinning slightly at the other. "Greetings and salutations." He grinned slightly and drew up a leg, draping an arm over the upraised knee. "Have a question for you. Care to assist me in my DADA work?"

Now, he knew Will wasn't the best at DADA (and that was being nice, of course). He didn't really need Will for the actual work, per se, but he DID need someone around in case things got...ugly.

"Mm? Oh, hey Ranger." Will glanced up quickly, surprised that the footsteps in the grass had turned out to be someone he knew...he hadn't thought to look behind him and find out, not as distracted as he was by the scenic view and all.

Upon Ranger's second statement, Will blinked slowly, eyebrows arched questioningly at his roommate. "If you reckon there's something that needs doing that I won't totally botch up...sure, I suppose?"

His shoulders rolled in a halfhearted sort of shrug. If something blows up as a result of our participation, we are NOT to blame.

Ranger grinned slightly and tipped his head backwards, gazing up toward the sky. "Well, you're capable of running up to the castle and retrieving the nurse if need be, right?" He lowered his gaze again in order to glance sidelong toward the other.

Yes, our class necessitates the use of extra bodies in case something should go Horribly Wrong. Bet you're rather glad that you're not in the class anymore, aren't you.

"Well, considering half of them don't even bother showing up anymore, I think a more apt question would be how many in my class are going to bother doing the assignment." Ranger sighed quietly and sat back down, dressed back in his regular clothes again and nice and dry (god bless magic). He shook his head and raked his fingers through his hair before leaning back against his hands. "Don't know why they bothered signing up for the class if they weren't ever going to be there for it. We're in a sixth year, for crying out loud..."

Ranger let out a puff of air and went back to gazing across the water, smiling slightly as he saw a familiar tentacle break the surface briefly before disappearing under the water once more.

Will, too, smiled at the sight of the squid. Really, it was just like he told Shihoko, the thing wasn't nearly as bad as...

And then his mind had drifted back to Shihoko, and he found the smile slipping, though he quickly hiked it back up, turning to chuckle softly. "Now, see, the squid could take either of us out, no problem. But I don't think it's really necessary to be afraid of it...it's never really tried to hurt a student before, I don't think. Even plays around with a few, in the shallows, when it's warmer out."

He sat back slightly, head tilting consideringly. "Not as bad as you'd think, first looking at him."

"He's certainly more helpful than anything else..."

Ranger trailed off quietly and shifted his gaze to the side to look at Will out of the corner of his eyes. Really, he was just...stop that, Ranger, or you're going to be distracted and miss out on a conversation point. He was about to open his mouth to say something else when a shape moving along the edge of the Forest caught his eyes.

"Ssh ssh ssh..." Ranger scooted in toward Will and pointed toward the forest. He leaned in close and dropped his voice to a murmur. "I think I see someth---there! Did you see it?"

"Eh? What?"

Will blinked and followed Ranger's gaze towards the edge of the forest. Something moving around in there = something not good, in Will's humble opinion, and whatever it was, he hoped it STAYED in the forest.

No, ever since finding 'Fluffy' in that place, he'd long decided to steer clear of it. The very thought of what large, dark shapes could be moving about between those trees was enough to give him goosebumps, and he shook his head quickly.

"I didn't see anything...you don't think it's coming this way do-"

And the remainder of the sentence stuck in his throat as he turned back to Ranger, only to notice that they were, perhaps, centimeters apart. With Ranger's extended arm nearly around his shoulders.

Cue the blood rushing into his face...now.

Whatever was in the forest had temporarily been forgotten, and now he was rather stuck staring at Ranger, lips still parted slightly in surprise.

Come on, MOVE, you idiot! Or he's going to notice!

Consider that little voice screaming in his head ignored.
