Taken from bias_cut's journal. In response to the Shirly Q Liquor song on Dirty Martini's myspace.

Dear Emily,
Thank you so much for your forwarding of this message. It isunfortunate that everyone cannot see eye to eye all of the time. In a world so rich with opinions, it is always refreshing to hear all sides of a story. Isn't that the most American of ideas? I completely understand the argument against Shirley Q. Liquor and I simply don't agree with it. I believe her to be a very talented comedian who modelled her southern character with love and wit. I don't view her performance as blackface and I don't believe that she does either. Her comedy is a reflection of our times and it would be very anti american to censor a performer without seeing the actual performance or finding out if it comes from a place of love and respect.
I think it is very important to remember that this comedian is agay man in the south and he may know a thing or two about predjudice.
By the way, I wonder if anyone has noticed that I am always referred to as a big girl or woman of size before I am recognized as a classically trained dancer. Perhaps the modification of my accomplishments by always prefacing my work with my size might be something for these folks to look at while they are discussing predjudice. Just a thought.
Much love,
Dirty Martini

And yes I know burlesque people read my journal, and yes I know that Dirty Martini is a burlesque icon, but that does not exempt her ignorance. And no I refuse to friends lock this post. Think about what you do before you do it. Just think.
