CHARACTER NAME: Nero
FANDOM: Devil May Cry 4 (video game)
CHRONOLOGY: Post game
CLASS: Hero!
SUPERHERO NAME: nooonnneeee
ALTER EGO: Nero, BOUNTY HUNTER. I guess.

BACKGROUND:
A very long time ago, the World was born from darkness. It split into the Human world and the Demon world (Hell). The Human world became the realm of light and Hell the realm of darkness. Many thousand years later, a demon named Mundus rose to power in Hell and sought to take over the human realm. But one of his most loyal subjects, a dark knight named Sparda, turned traitor and saved the humans, locking away Mundus for what he hoped was forever. Sparda ruled over the humans for hundreds of years before taking a human wife named Eva. Eva bore two half-devil sons, Dante and Vergil.

This is the main mythos behind the Devil May Cry series. Nero is another part-devil, part-human with the blood of Sparda in this world. It is hinted that he is the son of Vergil but this is never confirmed. He is related to the Sparda twins in some way. Nero was an orphan and grew up and lived on the isolated island of Fortuna, where the cult-like religion of The Order of the Sword rules. The Order controls everything about Fortuna. The Order worships Sparda as a God and the Savior of all Humanity. Nero serves as a mercenary for the Order.

As previously stated, Nero was an orphan from a very young age. He was raised by Credo and his sister Kyrie, and the two became very, very close. At some point in his life, his right arm changed into that of a demon from the shoulder down. Nero hid this ability unless he needed it.

During one of Sanctus' (the Order's leader) sermons, a mysterious man in red (Dante) breaks into the church and assassinates him. Nero springs into action to protect Kyrie and the others and ends up in a draw with the mysterious man. Nero is told to pursue the man in red by Credo. As he does so, he encounters several strange Hell Gates with powerful demons inside. He defeats them, one by one.

Eventually, he stumbles into the secret laboratory of the Order. Here he learns that the Order has been summoning and killing demons in order to obtain their energies and use them for "Ascension Ceremonies". These ceremonies turn humans into "angels" (in reality, demons) and it is revealed that Sanctus is alive again and is now aiming to conquer the world with the power of something he calls the "Savior". Nero is then mortally wounded by one of the scientists. However, he calls Vergil's sword, Yamato, to him. The sword, being studied in the laboratory, had been broken, but Nero's demonic powers were able to repair it. Nero then enters Devil Trigger mode for the first time. He not only heals himself but sends the main alchemist, Agnus, flying.

Nero then goes in search of Credo for answers. He finds the older man, but discovers that due to the incident in the lab, he is now a fugitive. Credo and Nero then fight, Credo having taken on a demonic form. Nero wins, but Kyrie appears at the wrong time. She sees Nero's demonic arm for the first time and sees him about to kill Credo (who has reverted to his human form) and she is frightened. Before Nero can explain, Agnus swoops down and kidnaps Kyrie. Credo and Nero put aside their fight for now.

Back at the Order's HQ, Nero and Agnus fight, but he fails to defeat the alchemist and save Kyrie. He finds a giant statue that resembles Sparda. Sanctus tricks Nero using Kyrie as bait in order to trap Nero along with Sparda's sword within the statue and revive the "Savior". The Savior needed a source of Sparda's demonic blood in order to animate. Sanctus had initially decided to use Dante for this purpose, but found Nero easier to manipulate.

While Nero is trapped in the statue and Sanctus is using it to begin his ultimate plan, Dante destroys the Hell Gates (sources of the Savior's power). Dante eventually retrieves Yamato, lost in the fight, and stabs it into the Savior's heart. This allows Nero to awaken and escape the core of the statue. Dante and Nero seem victorious, but Sanctus merges with the Savior and Nero has to defeat them one last time.

With Sanctus and the Savior defeated, Nero comes to terms with his demonic blood and he and Kyrie prepare to share a kiss before they are attacked by demons.

PERSONALITY:
Nero is a very rebellious young man, sharing that trait with Dante and Sparda. Even though he is a member of the Order of the Sword, he does not subscribe to their ideals. In fact, he only stays around for Kyrie and for the work they give him. And this work, usually involving demon-slaying, he happily does, using his sword (the Red Queen), his gun (the Blue Rose) and his demonic arm. He is the only member of the Order allowed to use a gun, which the Order believe to be dishonorable weapons, further showing how far removed Nero is from the religion. He was also unaware of the history involving Sparda.

Nero puts on a very typical teenage air; he's snarky, cracks jokes and acts cocky. However, he is extremely emotional and cries several times (mostly about Kyrie) over the course of the game. He also screams and throws tantrums. Even though Credo was partially responsible for raising him, Nero feels only vague comradery with the man. Nero is, however, extremely attached to Credo's sister, Kyrie. The two grew up together and by the end of the game are romantically involved.

The relationship between Nero and Dante changes over the course of the game. At first Nero hates the other man for assassinating Sanctus. But once Nero discovers the truth about the Order, he and Dante forge a tenuous working relationship and a rivalry. Nero calls Dante "Old man" and Dante calls Nero "kid". Nero would never admit it out loud, but by the end of the game, he looks up to Dante a bit as a teacher and a friend. He only ever shows outward dislike of Dante, though, and hates it when Dante treats him like a kid (even when he acts like it). This can be applied to any other adults who treat Nero this way; they can expect to be met with teenage apathy.

POWER:
Nero's powers all stem from the fact that he has demonic blood in him. Nero will be coming to the City with his two swords (Red Queen and Yamato) and his gun (Blue Rose), but these will not be counted as powers because they are only amplified in their efficacy by his demonic blood.

The Devil Bringer: Nero's right arm is the physical manifestation of his demonic powers. From the shoulder down, his arm is muscular and covered in blue and red scales that look similar to plate armor. There are breaks in the scales on the top of his hand and on his palm and these cracks glow bright blue. A passive ability that his arm possesses is the ability to sense demonic presences in close range to him ((will have a permissions post in game)). This arm also possesses supernatural strength. When he focuses, Nero can form a large spectral form of his arm, which he uses to pick up his enemies and smack them around. This spectral arm can also extend to grab enemies up to 10 feet away. Nero is shown to use these abilities to pick up and injure enemies hundreds of times his size. Nero can also imbue his weapons with demonic energy, such as charging up energy in his gun.

Rapid Regeneration: Another passive ability from demon blood. Nero can survive wounds that would normally kill a human and can heal from wounds over time. He's not invulnerable by any means; just much tougher than your average joe.

IN SHORT, STUFF HE HAS:
-The Devil Bringer; his right arm is scaly and bright blue due to demonic heritage. For more information on it, see "Power" section above.
-Red Queen; a highly modified broadsword. Has a small fuel tank and a motorcycle-esque fuel injector. He can "rev" his sword and spray fuel over the blade, improving it's attack power by setting it on fire.
-Blue Rose; A double-barreled revolver, silvery in color with a rose on it. Nero can charge the gun with demonic energy and shoot more powerful bullets.
-Yamato; A Devil Arm in the form of a katana with a blue-wrapped handle. It once belonged to Vergil. It's more a memento since Nero cannot use Devil Trigger in the City and he prefers his own sword.
