Finding comfort

Feb 11, 2008 22:44

Not in the best of moods, to put it lightly. To take my mind off it, I did stuff like playing my PS2 or watching some TV or movies, but then my TV broke down. Perfect. Just bloody perfect. I still have a TV in my bedroom, and it's connected to the computer, but it's not the same.

Another thing I do is read. Luckily I manage to keep my concentration for that, which is not a trivial thing for me these days, but I do it anyway. I read Dan Simmons' Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion, all 4 Nomi Novik's Temeraire series, His Dark Materials trilogy and several more that I cannot recall right now. Currently I'm finishing Ursula K. Le Guin's first book in the Earthsea series, which I suppose I should have read when I was much younger, but never heard of it back then.

It can be a little comforting, plunging into a book like that, disconnect entirely from the surrounding and let the imagination rein, but recently I find myself needing a more comforting book. A book that will make me feel better. I still have 3 books I haven't read waiting on the shelf (The Left Hand of Darkness, To Say Nothing of the Dog and Robin Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice), but if anyone has a better idea, I'd be happy to hear.

bummer, personal moments
