Well, after all that rain in December we ended up having a very snowy and cold January, February and March. Now the snow has finally melted and it’s been quite sunny lately but still quite cold, around 4 degrees Celsius in the shade.
As usual I spend my days working or at the stable.
So work: is definitely not intellectually stimulating but at least I have a job. And it has been made permanent, at the university, so if I want I can be here for the rest of my life. Which I don’t want. I can’t advance, I’m paid too little (not for the job but for my qualifications), and I’m bored.
I really enjoy spending time at the stable though. It’s taken quite some time since moving to this new stable (1.5.2008) to make new friends but I seem to have made them now. Some people are even a bit too talkative and distract me too much from taking care of Gib, but usually it’s nice to have a short casual talk. I’ve also been asked to ride other people’s horses, trailer horses to competitions and feed the horses once in a while, which I do gladly, I enjoy it, but can also use a bit of extra money. Honestly, I barely have enough money to make it through each month. Sometimes I run short, and need the 50-100 euros extra I get while doing these horsey extras. Obviously, if I really had to save I could cut back maybe 300 euros on food- mine and Gib’s especially and the dog’s too, but high quality food/feed and supplements is something I feel it’s worth investing in. I can see the results in healthy animals and quite healthy me. Unfortunately I keep myself a bit too busy and sometimes get too little sleep. I had three colds this winter whereas I had none last year when I was still studying and could sleep longer if I was really tired.
I’m not meeting my boyfriend much. Once a week or once every two weeks. He’s not really a part of my life, and for the first time when it comes to boyfriends I don’t really care. I'm considering breaking up with him but I’ve been putting it off.
I’ve started Iyengar yoga. My employer sponsored a half year membership to the university gym and I’ve been going there faithfully every Friday since November (except one Friday when I was too sick). I really enjoy it. Though I don’t practice or do any stretching in between (I know, I should) I’m getting more and more flexible and the asanas are easier to perform. I hope my employer will sponsor another half year. There’s only next Friday left.
One traditional thing I haven’t done this year: gone skiing with my dad, his wife and my sister in the Alps. It’s the first time we haven’t gone skiing together since moving to Finland in ’94. My sister did invite me to a day of snowboarding in a little place in Sipoo. It was the fifth time we snowboarded but got down the red slope no problems. We were quite pleased with ourselves.
