Okay, I haven't kept up with my LJ friends or LJ at all lately, but I promise to get to looking/commenting after I get this out.
So, I watched Advent Children tonight. How was it? Terrible. Awesome. Lacking. Amazing. Yes, all of that. Someone please explain to me how a movie that sucked so bad could be so great? If you've seen it, you may know what I mean...if not, you may want to just skip this entry altogether(comments especially). While I don't spoil the story itself, you sensitive folk may wanna stay away just in case.
Okay. Where'd the story go and where can I find it? Seriously, the story in Advent Children was pathetic. I mean, come on Square Enix, you can do better than that! I could come up with a better story than that...and in a lot less time, mind you. It seemed that this movie was basically one giant fight scene.
I mean, even if there was a story, there was no damn room for it in the midst of all the flashing sword moves and motorcycle stunts. The really COOL sword moves and motorcycle stunts, yes, but that's not the point. I was impressed with the animation and the utter WOW factor of the fights...I mean, I'd be insane not to appreciate that stuff.
But, AC didn't succeed in substituting story with action, in my opinion. I think this movie would have been that much greater if they had taken the time to, you know, develop the characters and all. While it's easy to say that the characters are already known by playing Final Fantasy 7 the game, it has still been 2 years since the incident. People change, and hell, we see some new faces. Why don't we ever get to know or even care about any of them? There wasn't a moment in the movie that I was ever inspired by any other emotion other than "WTF JUST HAPPENED? AWESOME!" Especially since physics doesn't exist in Midgaard.
I was able to forget about the lack of story at moments, but I didn't come out of that movie knowing anything more about anybody other than Cloud is still all linkin park emo. At least Sephiroth wasn't all MOMMY in this.
Sad.
