This is one of those weeks where I'm waiting for next week. Not because this week is so horrible but because what I do this week will hopefully bring off some practical life gains next week. A plodder, basically. One tonight made more fun by watching Extras (is anyone watching this? Isn't Ricky's girl-friend the cutest thing, ever? I want to grab her around the waist and squeeze whenever she's onscreen) and Absolute Power, which, even when it's not brilliant, still has Stephen and nice shots of London. O England, Land of Unashamed Stephen Adoration.
Anyway, four songs that bring cheer during an uneventful week (complete with links without links because yousendit hates me and Max. Comment if ye wish for files :) now with YSI links). Number is entirely random and the selection rather spontaneous.
Lee Remick - The Go-Betweens
Robert Forster is like the template for all those mad, odd-looking geniuses who find lodgings in my affectionate bosom. Grant or Robert? is like Paul or John? but, you know, less 1960s.
Also, Brisbane pop really hasn't changed much in 25-odd years.
Especially For You - Jason and Kylie
Okay, mainly here for nostalgia and paying-out purposes but some part of me actually likes it. Hell, I can still sing along with it, and probably hit those manly notes better than Jase in doing so. And the film clip! It was so romantic (a bit of it is
here, though poor Jason doesn't even get credited).
Swaying is mandatory.
You Know My Name, Look Up The Number - The Beatles
What is not to love? Too much Goon Show = weirdness and fun! Even Paul is kinda funny ...
Fifteen Feet of Pure White Snow - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Now Nick and cheer may seem a disparate combo but just thinking about the film clip makes me laugh (Jarvis Cocker, Noah Taylor, Jason Donovan and others are at this party, see? Jase's performance as the wasted-person-who-plays-with-the-light-switch has to be the highlight of his career. Better even than EFY). And the song itself is gorgeous and dark.
Well, the number is not so random. I got stuck for five.
