So…the town depute….You know, I got on here to update and realized I never finished that story…so I guess I will do that first.
Apparently it is against the law to get in an accident and not report it. I didn’t know that. To be honest, when Wanda picked me up, my tires were still spinning, it was about a whole minute after it happened, and all I knew was that I was bleeding from my head, my whole face was already so swollen it didn’t seem possible to swell any more, and I thought my ribs were broken, calling the police and letting them know I had flipped my car into the ditch wasn’t my first priority; calling my dad and getting to the hospital WAS. So, that’s what I did.
BUT, from what I was told, someone drove by right after I left, apparently, saw the tires still spinning, and called the police. They were there within five minutes of the time it happened, which means that I was still at the Neumann’s. The depute was there, and they called an ambulance and had a life-flight all lined up and ready to come if it was needed, and they called a tow truck. I guess it’s common in rolled cars to have someone flung out of the vehicle and trapped underneath. The tow guy ended up being Mike, the guy who’s towed every car we own, and knows our family. They lifted up the car to see if I was under, which I was not. Then they busted out my back window to see if I was in the back. Mike said that one of the car doors was open, so I am not really sure why they did that. Other than the back window, the only other one that ended up being broken was the windshield, and it was just in a little circle where I hit it with my head. However, when they were towing it away, since the window was out in the back, it blew off.
When I got home from the hospital, I got a call from the sheriff telling me that I needed to come in the next day. So dad and I went, and she railed me about how I could go to jail for not calling it in, how, if I had known her last name, Wanda could go to jail for not calling it in, and all this stuff. She was really rude about it too. She ended up giving me a 350 dollar ticket for, get this, “Loosing Control of Your Vehicle”. I couldn’t believe it. She said I could pay it then or go to court and try to fight it or lessen it. How in the world could I fight it? I DID lose control of my car. Well, I guess I could say I did it on purpose, and then it wouldn’t be loosing control, shouldn’t tried that!
Anyway, dad and I walked across the street to the court house, since we were already right there, no use waiting 30 days, right? I waited for about an hour and went in. I was so afraid that I wouldn’t be able to say anything but “guilty” or “not guilty” because there was more to the story than one word. Even the depute said that it was because of the conditions of the road, although, she did keep pushing that I might have been speeding, which I was not. I didn’t even know Eastman WAS 50, I thought it was 35 or 40, so I know I wasn’t speeding. The judge asked me what I pleaded, and I told her “guilty”, and then she asked me what happened. “WHEW” “Thank you God!” After I told her, she told me that the maximum fine would be 350 dollars, and I almost started to panic. She then said that the minimum fine is 35 and told me to go pay it and go home because I looked pretty sore.
I almost cried. But, I paid the court costs and the fine and got out of there. Stupid depute. I’m sorry I caused that much trouble, but I didn’t do it on purpose, and I didn’t know you had to call in an accident when it is just one car. Grrr.!
