On Grief

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."

- Psalm 116:15

At about 5:30am, it was one of the first things I saw on my timeline as I was wading through the bulk of messages mostly from roleplaying friends around the world to get to updates from people I knew in person. And then I learned that my friend's father-- Patdes' father-- was murdered.

Consoling others was never my best point. Especially now as this crime is perhaps the most grave death I've gotten news of within the past few months. Although, with the Glee Club, I've had a year that was full of attending wakes and singing for them, these past few months have been peppered not with the deaths of anonymous faces I have never known, but people that mattered to me-- and the people that mattered to them.

Thus far, I've attended a wake for a former officemate and gone to honor a Muslim tradition for my other officemate's father. I want to go see Patdes and be there for her, and pray for her father as well. I remember meeting him once. I can remember that the first thing I thought of him was that he was a really good man with a good heart in him. He seemed that way, even upon first impressions.

Whoever is reading this, I hope you take a moment to pray-- in any way you can-- for those who have departed, whether they were taken before their time or simply slipped away after a long struggle with disease. Please offer a moment, especially for those who have been unjustly slain. May justice come to them and console the hearts of those they have left behind.
