The Gryffindor dormitory was unusually still for a Saturday night. No Marauders pranks on the rise, no Sirius putting things up Remus' nose as he slept and no Remus lecturing him. All four boys were asleep in their bed, and the only noise was that of James' snoring.
In the blink of an eye, Peter was sitting up wide awake in his bed. Scanning the room side-to-side to make sure everybody was asleep. He quietly ruffled through his bedside table and gathered some belongings and stuffed them in the pockt of his pyjamas.
He got up and began to tip-toe towards the door, he grabbed the handle and as he turned it, a loud screeching noise echoed the room. 'Blasted door!' Peter thought to himself.
"Wherem arem you ghoin'?" Sirius said, obviously more asleep than awake. He failed to even lift his head to see what Peter was up to.
"Err, Well i'm just going to the toilet" Peter said nervously.
"Ohm yes! THE TOILET!" Screamed Sirius in triumph. Peter was sure he'd officially lost Sirius, He wondered weather Sirius would dream about toilets now?
Peter began to tip-toe down the stairs and down into the common room. The crackling from the fire was quieter than usual, and it was dying out. There was no time to help that, Peter had business to do. He took himself to that familiar spot he took himself almost every night. He swiftly moved behind the Gryffindor Tapestry where he could not be seen.
With one swift flick of his wand, and those winning words, Peter was no longer himself. From behind the tapestry emerged a rat, and Peter Pettigrew was nowhere to be seen. The rat ran quickly to the door, and was soon running down the Hogwarts corridors.
He looked around on the floor for the markings. Peter had often found it hard to find his way around as a rat, a tiny rat in a huge castle, you do the math. Then finally, he found that little inkstain that gave him hope. Now he began running even faster.
After a while of running, he came face to face with a large door labeled, Kitchens. He'd found it once more. As he crawled his way in after one of the house elves left, he began searching.
This late at night there were never many house elves down in the kitchens, but there were always some. Peter was sure once or twice he'd heard something about Professor Dumbledore wanting a roast beef to entertain his late night visitor. But he was not here to eavesdrop.
He headed straight for the 'goodies cupboard'. As Peter had unofficially named it. Inside this cupboard, was where the house elves kept the snacks such as the Droobles, Chocolate Frogs, Berti Botts Every Flavour Beans and his personal favourite, the Fizzing Wizbees.
He squirmed his way through all the packets, opening them with the slightest of ease. Now this, was a feast. Half an hour past by as Peter ate, and ate. There was only one or two house elves left in the kitchens now, he figured it was his time to leave.
As he began running the corridors once more, he thought to himself, "Everynight!" with a snicker of laughter in his head. "Being a rat, isn't that bad at all".
