“So, this is my house” Ron said blankly, setting down Hermione’s luggage at the front porch of The Burrow. His bushy haired friends stared at the place, carefully analysing it.
“It looks awfully small for a big family like yours” Hermione said, picking up her luggage again.
“Well, it isn’t, do let’s just get inside; its way too humid out here”
“Yeah, you’re right”
Neither Ron nor Hermione had expected the first conversation of Hermione’s stay at The Burrow, before the Quidditch World Cup, to be so awkward. Hermione figured that the tension would be gone before dinner, and Ron thought it’d take until next week, when Harry arrived, for it to wear off. Until then, they both thought, they’d have to make do.
“So, do you want to give me a tour?” Hermione asked once they got inside.
“Oh, yeah, sure” Ron muttered absentmindedly “Ginny! Take Hermione’s stuff up to your room!” he yelled at no one in particular, hoping Ginny would hear. Sure enough, the redhead came bounding down the stairs with a scowl on her face.
“Do it yourself, Ron, geez!” she sighed, walking past the two to the living room “oh, hi Hermione!” she added before she disappeared.
“So, I’m sharing with Ginny?” Hermione asked.
“Oh, yeah, sorry if you don’t like it, but we don’t have any other rooms at the moment” Ron said, glaring after his sister.
“No, that’s fine” Hermione said, smiling “So, about the tour?”
“Oh, right” Ron said, moving Hermione’s luggage to the side “Wanna start on the inside or outside?”
“Oh, the inside’s fine” Hermione replied “I would like to meet the rest of your family, though”
“Oh, well, only me, Fred, George, Ginny and Percy are here” Ron said “Mum’s out visiting a friend, dad’s at work and Bill and Charlie haven’t arrived yet; you’re the first one here”
“Oh, never mind then” Hermione said. So Ron took Hermione around the kitchen, dining and living room areas before taking her, and her luggage, upstairs and showed her all the unoccupied bedrooms. Then they dropped the luggage off at Ginny’s room and headed towards the yard, having very non-awkward conversation about who they think will win the Quidditch World Cup.
“So, this is the yard” Ron announced “We keep our chickens over there, the orchard and broom shed’s back over there, and the garden’s up there” he said, pointing to everything he named.
“Hmm” Hermione said thoughtfully. She didn’t have much to say on Ron’s chickens or orchard.
“Oh, and if you don’t mind, we’ll have to de-gnome the garden later on today” Ron added, walking towards the orchard.
“Really? Why, don’t you want to have garden gnomes? My mother loves them; she collects them and has a whole shelf of them!”
Ron didn’t reply, but Hermione could’ve sworn he muttered sarcastically ‘I know I’ve had this conversation before somewhere”
