"Hermione, the phone is for you!" Hermione's mother called up the stairs.

Hermione sat up in her bed, rubbing her eyes. She glanced at the clock and saw it was ten AM- the latest she'd ever slept. At least it was the holidays, it wasn't like she had anything to do. While she hadn't exactly been dreading the summer holidays, she certainly preferred to be at school, she didn't realise how different it would be back at home, or how much she would miss being in the world of magic. She hadn't done a spell in two weeks, and she already missed it.
Pulling on her dressing gown she ran down the stairs and took the phone from her mother.

"Hello?"

"Hi, Hermione! It's Emily." The voice on the other end of the phone said.

"Oh, er, hello Emily. How are you?"

"Fine thanks but how are you, I haven't seen you since you went away to that fancy schmancy boarding school. I was wondering if you wanted to go shopping or something today!" Emily's voice sang out.

Hermione paused. She had been so close to Emily growing up, but they hadn't spoken in a year. So much had happened since she was a carefree muggle, going shopping and to the park with her friends. She picked up her wand that was by her bed, she hadn't let it out of her sight since it had chosen her at Ollivanders- little old her, fancy that, she really was a wizard and she remembered being so proud that it had chosen her. Twirling it round her fingers she tried to decide whether she should see Emily or not, it shouldn't be this hard a decision. She didn't know if she could even fit in with her old friends again, what do muggle's talk about anyway? Why couldn't she remember, it had only been a year! But out of touch with the muggle world she didn't know things like, what band was number one in the charts, or which film had just come out, that's what they used to talk about, wasn't it?

She wasn't a muggle anymore, she was a wizard, that kind of thing wasn't important to her, shouldn't be, the new world that she was a part of, it was so different and it was where she belonged, it's where she wanted to belong.

Maybe a day out with the muggles though, it wouldn't be so bad, it might even be fun.

"Sure, Emily, I'll get dressed and meet you in town." She finally replied.

"Great, I can't wait. I've really missed you, Hermione." Her friend was so excited.

"You too." Hermione replied, placing the phone back on the hook. She hated to lie, but what could she say? The truth? She hadn't though about Emily since the day her letter for Hogwarts arrived.

Title: Fresh Start

Summary: Pansy is trying to clear the slate and be a better person, but Draco is making it difficult.
Word Count: 478
Author's Notes: Challenge 60 - New Beginnings
Registered purchases?: Both

A new day. A fresh slate, and Pansy surely needed it after last night. Her mind flitted back to the fight she had had with Draco, the things she had thrown, the spells she had used. She had been quite drunk and very angry, but it was no excuse. She was Pansy fucking Parkinson, she could control her temper, she wasn't some fiery, red-headed, Weasley freak. The Parkinsons were composed at all times.
No more of that though. From today, she wouldn't touch a drop of firewhisky again, that's for sure but there was something she had to do first. For every fresh start, you have to make old wrongs right. She had to apologise to Draco. Not a thought she relished, he could be such a smug git that he would draw this one out for a long time. She could only imagine the torture he would put her through, not that all of the torture was a bad thing.

Fixing and checking her hair, in the large mirror over the fireplace, she smeared her lipstick on last of all, kissing the mirror as she did. It would definitely help her case if she looked good while she apologised, perhaps she would distract him enough that he would forgive her without making a big fuss about it. She was finally ready. Grabbing some Floo Powder, she threw it in the fire, she still hated apparating, and yelled. "Malfoy Mansion!". She had an open invitation to the fireplace in Draco's room, a little arrangement that certainly did not go both ways, having Draco turning up at all hours of the night looking for a little play was not a good idea.

As she emerged from the fire, she bumped straight into Draco, who was sweeping up the china from the plates that she sent flying his way.

"I wondered when you'd get here." He said, smirking.

"Yes, yes, well." She paused, she HATED apologising.

"And, something you wanted to say?" He was enjoying this too much.

"I'm sorry, for getting angry at you yesterday, and for the way I behaved. It was unnecessary." She spat out, stiff and proper like her mother taught her. Draco merely raised an eyebrow which really heckled her. "It's not like you were blameless, if you hadn't...then I... ARGH." He was so infuriating. She took a deep breath. "But I am sorry."

"Well, I'm sure I can think of a way you can make it up to me."

That was easier than she expected..."Ask away," She purred flirtatiously.

"You can start by clearing up the mess you made. Without using magic."

Pansy glared at him, not what she was expecting, but got to work. Fresh starts don't come easy, and she would know, she seemed to need them a lot.

502/50 = 10.04 + 10 bonus = 20 points
478/50 = 9.56 + 10 bonus points = 20 points
Total = 40 points for Ravenclaw
