“You can tell by the way I use my walk, I’m a woman’s man: no time to talk,” James sang in a wavering voice. It was early; everyone was still at dinner, but James. James was in the common room, with a muggle radio he’d bewitched to work inside Hogwarts. He bopped around the room, jumping onto chairs occasionally and singing rather loudly.
“Ah ha ha ha, Staying Aliiiiii-ive!” He chanted the words out like a disco queen and jumped up on the couch, attempting muggle disco moves, but James was no John Travolta.
The next song came on, announced by the D.J, and James jumped off the couch to listen. It was “The Hustle” by Van McCoy. “Trash disco is seventies cool!” James sang, deciding that this song was also worthy of his horrible disco moves and singing voice, which was even worse. James attempted a poorly executed Hustle, nearly tripping over his own two (apparently left) feet.
“Do the Hustle!” James chanted, falling back on his standard impersonation of John Travolta’s dancing.
At that moment, the Portrait to get into the common room was pushed open. Sirius and Lily stopped dead, and their jaws dropped as the watched James, as he danced on the couch facing the opposite way. “Shh,” Sirius said quietly, putting his finger to his lips, as Lily suppressed a giggle.
“Do do do do do da do da do! Do the Hustle!” James sang, no, screamed, going for a big finale by doing a 180, jazz hands flaring. He ended up facing Lily and Sirius, who were hunched over and trying not to laugh hysterically.
The first one to speak was Lily. “Trying our for the ballet, Potter?”
And then, from Sirius: “Nah, he’s just on crack!”
