Terry Boot frowned.

"So basically, Professor, I'm not sure if the tortoise is supposed to bear no resemblance to the teacup. I mean, if you think about it, there are some similarities between the two. Like, the teacup is roughly the same size as my tortoise was, but the tortoise was very small to begin with. It's also green. Should I have tried harder and made it pink or something? See, I wasn't sure if-"

McGonagall held up a hand.

"Just a minute, Boot."

She turned to the curly-haired boy who had stepped up beside them.

“Yes, Goldstein?”

“I’m sorry to interrupt, Professor,” Anthony Goldstein said with a smile. “But I wanted to get your advice on my teacup.”

McGonagall swiftly surveyed the dainty yellow teacup with its tiny matching saucer.

“Lovely work, Goldstein,” the professor told him. She turned again to Terry and pressed her mouth into a thin frown. “Your work is perfectly acceptable, Boot.”

"But what-"

Terry’s mouth fell open as the professor walked away.

“How do you do it?” he asked Anthony. “She can't stand me! I don’t even know-”

Anthony smiled rather sadly. “Well, you don’t need to say everything that crosses your mind,” he suggested. "Think, and then decide what you wish to say."

Terry groaned. “You make it sound so easy....”
